#1-1 NESHAMINY 3, #12-2 GEORGE WASHINGTON 0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-12)
The Redskins rolled to a sweep of George Washington in Tuesday’s opening round of the state tournament.
“Great team victory in the first round of the PIAA state playoffs,” Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman said. “Things will only get tougher from here and we need to bring our A game moving forward. Looking forward to getting back into the gym over the next three days to prepare for Saturday’s match."
Neshaminy received contributions from up and down their lineup. Josh Adler (14 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs), Jake Giuliana (10 assists, 2 digs) and Liam Smith (11 assists, 1 block) shared setting duties. Dan Berzin led the Redskins with 15 kills, six digs, one block and one ace. Josh Hamilton added seven kills, four digs, three aces and one block, Aiden Hastings had five kills and one block, and Ben Clendening had five kills. Also contributing were Josh Clendening (3 kills, 1 block), Kieran Edwards (2 kills), Michael Sooby (2 aces, 3 digs, 5 assists) and John Nice (1 ace, 3 kills, 1 dig, 2 blocks).
Neshaminy (22-0, 14-0 SOL) will face District 11 champion Northampton in Saturday’s quarterfinal round.
#1-2 PENNRIDGE 3, #12-1 LA SALLE 0 (25-17, 25-13, 25-15)
The Rams notched an impressive road win, earning a sweep of the District 12 champions.
“Great way to start a state playoff run playing efficient volleyball,” Pennridge coach Dave Childs said. “We got contributions from everyone. We know it will get tougher the further we advance, and we are excited to continue playing.”
Setter Riley Kodidek was credited with 32 assists and five blocks. Tyler Johnson had a strong showing at the net, contributing 11 kills with a .625 hitting percentage to go along with five blocks. Jude Rotondo had nine kills, eight digs and three blocks, and Thomas McKinney added seven kills and six digs. Nick Smith had four kills and three blocks, and Bryce Ammon added four kills and two aces. Aaron Ladd and Gavin Stayer both had two kills. Alex Derk contributed eight digs.
Pennridge (18-2, 13-1 overall) will face District 10 champion Erie McDowell in Saturday’s state quarterfinals.
