Sydney Andrews – Cabrini University (Softball)
Major: Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: Cabrini, Eastern
Reasons for choosing Cabrini: “What made me choose Cabrini was I liked the small school, and the softball team was what I was looking for. They had my major, which is a big factor in looking for schools, and they had the sport I wanted to play.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in softball at the collegiate level? “I’ve wanted to play in college since I was little, thinking, ‘Oh my gosh, college softball’ and looking up to the girls that played. When I became really serious about playing in college was around eighth grade because I realized I could now pursue what I wanted to pursue.”
Coach Dave Scott says: “The first time I saw Syd – I almost cried. I looked at her swing and thought, ‘Oh my god.’ Now today I’m trying not to cry because I don’t want her to leave us. Syd is everything a coach could ask for – first to practice, last to leave. As a pitcher, she’s almost always first in all of our physical conditioning, all of our running. Syd could probably play any position, and she’d still be (going on to play in college). The fact that she’s a pitcher doesn’t mean she’s not an athlete. Literally, she could be a shortstop, she could be an outfielder, she could be anything she wanted to be. Thank god for our program, she was a pitcher. Cabrini is getting a good one. The coach down there will have a very good time working with Syd because she’s coachable, she wants to get better. Even coming into her senior year, she improved – added three or four miles an hour to her fastball, and she started to get more serious about weights. I can’t wait to see what the future holds.”
