On Thursday, May 19, 2022, Central Bucks West senior Liz Johnston was recognized for committing to continue her rugby career at West Chester University.
Liz Johnston – West Chester University (Rugby)
Major: Nursing
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Florida State, Clemson, Penn State
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “They have a varsity program, which is pretty rare for women’s rugby. They have a really great program, and they play D-1 Elite in 7s season.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in rugby at the collegiate level? “I started in eighth grade, and I just loved it. I tried a lot of sports before that. I started to play for select teams like Atlantis. I saw a lot of other girls from my teams playing at really good schools, and I was like – ‘I want to play at the highest level I can.’”
Doylestown Rugby coach Stacy Mancuso says: “Liz is small, but she is mighty. You cannot say enough about her determination and leadership. She gives 110 percent at all times – in every game and every practice. She works so incredibly hard each and every practice, and she is an amazing leader on the field – she’s cool, calm and collected. I’m just amazed how far she’s come, and she is definitely going to be missed as a leader, as a player and as a person.”
