SOL Girls' Volleyball Wrap (9-8-22)

SOL National

PENNSBURY 3, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0 (25-19, 25-12, 25-20)
The Falcons dominated play in Thursday’s conference match, defeating the Indians in three straight in a rivalry game.
Keira Rogan led the offense with nine kills, one block, and three aces. Jocelyn Fang (8 kills, 1 block), Ella Visco (5 kills, 3 blocks) and Kira Sendlock (5 kills) were powerful at the net. Also making significant contributions were Ainsley Dysart (3 kills, 4 blocks), Claire Macelroy (3 kills), Kiersten Adair (2 kills), and Jadyn Rogan (1 kill, 1 ace). Sami Love led the Falcons defense as libero with eight digs.  Caroline Croteau (2 aces) and Faith Szumagala (1 ace) shared setting duties. Stephanie Adamousky contributed with 4 aces.

Pennsbury (4-0, 2-0 SOL) will host Pennridge Friday, and Council Rock North (2-2, 0-1) will host William Tennent on Tuesday. 

WILLIAM TENNENT 3, BENSALEM 0 (25-21, 25-23, 25-8)
The Panthers earned a sweep of the Owls, but Tennent coach Brian Bassler acknowledged it was a much-improved Bensalem squad.
“Both teams really gave a lot of effort,” Bassler said. “That’s easily the best Bensalem team I have seen in a while. The coaches and players are doing a nice job.
“We got going a bit in the third set, our girls are so passionate about the game, and they hate to lose. It was great seeing them to continue to work even when some things weren’t going our way.”
Emmerson McElhinney led the Panthers at the net with nine kills and three aces, and Charlotte Reeves had five kills and three aces. Setter Izzy Goebel had 23 assists. Addy Criss (16 digs) and Margaux Kellum (13 digs) led the defense.
William Tennent (2-2, 1-1 SOL) will host Archbishop Ryan in a non-league match Friday, and Bensalem (0-2) will host Academy of Palumbo in a non-league match Friday.

COUNCIL ROCK SOUTH 3, NESHAMINY 0
The Golden Hawks rolled to a sweep of the Redskins.
Nala Kauer’s nine kills led a balanced attack for Rock South. Edan Kauer added five kills, three aces and six digs. Lindsey Korn had eight digs and also contributed strong passing. Cadence Palmer led the Golden Hawks’ service game with six aces to go along with three digs. Setter Ashlyn Dinan had 23 assists. Shani Sun had five kills and five digs, and Gracie DeSaro had two blocks and two kills. Dara Botnick chipped in with one block and one kill. Cassidy Melnick also contributed to a strong passing game.
Council Rock South (2-2, 2-0 SOL) will host Villa Joseph Marie in a non-league match on Monday, and Neshaminy (4-3, 1-1) will travel to Upper Dublin on Tuesday.

SOL Continental

QUAKERTOWN 3, CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 1 (21-25, 25-21, 25-13, 25-21)
The Panthers rebounded from a loss in the opening set to win the next three.
Kayla Sicher had a big night for the Panthers, finishing with 10 kills, six aces, two blocks, two assists and 10 digs. Grace White also was a force at the net, contributing eight kills and six blocks. Cece Bates had six kills, one ace, one block and five digs. Erica Gildea led the defense with 23 digs and two aces. Setter Anna Skogen handed out 23 assists and also had 10 digs, two kills and one ace. Also making contributions were Mia Handschumacher (3 kills, 5 aces, 5 digs), Ellie White (3 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs), Carissa Ievers (8 digs), Katelyn Martinez (5 digs) and Kiele Magalengo (2 digs).
Quakertown (1-3, 1-1 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks West on Tuesday, and Central Bucks South (1-4, 0-2) will host New Hope- Solebury on Monday.

CENTRAL BUCKS EAST 3, SOUDERTON 1 (25-19, 23-25, 25-20, 25-19)
The visiting Patriots earned a hard fought road win over the Indians.
Sydney Groves (16 digs, 8 kills, 4 aces) led a strong defensive effort for the Patriots and also had an impact at the net. Katie Monaghan (21 assists, 15 digs, 3 kills) and Mia Mettille (10 assists, 2 aces, 2 digs) split setting duties. Ayra Haridas also had double-digit digs with 12 to go along with one assist. Maddy Ware also had a big game, finishing with seven kills, three blocks, two aces and two digs. Also making important contributions were Stephanie Bahner (4 kills, 4 digs), Samantha Sharp (6 digs, 4 kills, 1 block), Aimee Wolf (4 kills, 2 digs, 1 block) and Emily Arslan (1 kills, 1 ace, 1 dig).
For the Indians, Kay Guessford had eight kills while McKenna Murawski had five kills and 11 digs. Alexa Mazzeo led the defense with 15 digs, four assists and two aces. Setter Grace Boyd had 14 assists and two digs.

Central Bucks East (2-4, 2-0 SOL) will host North Penn on Tuesday, and Souderton (2-1, 1-1) will travel to Boyertown for a non-league match Friday.

SOL American

ABINGTON 3, UPPER DUBLIN 0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-19)
The Ghosts improved to 5-0 just two weeks into the season, notching a sweep of the Cardinals.
Kenya Lucas (15 kills), Shayla Moody (11 kills) and Sasha Moody (8 kills) led the Ghosts’ potent attack. Sophomore setter Mary Carter doled out 33 assists.
For the Cardinals, Setter Kaitlyn Small had 21 assists as well as four aces and one kill. Reese Mackey led a balanced attack with nine kills. Brooke Kinsley contributed to all phases of the game, finishing with four kills, four aces, one assist, two digs and three blocks. Jamis Andrulonis added two kills, two blocks and one ace, Natalie Marshall contributed four kills, and Katelyn Gamburg added two kills and two digs.
“UD lost in three but played a great match against a strong Abington team,” UD coach Paul Choi said.
Abington (5-0, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Gwynedd Mercy Academy for a non-league match on Monday, and Upper Dublin (0-4, 0-2) will be on the road at Gwynedd Mercy on Friday.

NEW HOPE-SOLEBURY 3, HATBORO-HORSHAM 0
The Lions won their fifth match without a loss, defeating the defending conference champion Hatters in straight sets. Coach Chris Marchock credited his team’s solid serving and scrappy defense in the win.
“The kids played hard tonight,” the Lions’ coach said.
New Hope-Solebury (5-0, 2-0 SOL) will travel to Central Bucks South for a non-league match Monday. Hatboro-Horsham 1-2, 0-1) will travel to Wilson High School on Saturday.

Non-league
PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 3, HAVERFORD 0 (25-14, 25-13, 25-15)

The Colonials earned a sweep of the visiting Fords in a non-league match, propelled by a strong service game and tenacious defense. The team racked up 16 aces and 34 digs, keeping points alive to allow the team to finish points.
“PW's middles combined with the pin hitters to have a solid day with 10 blocks and 15 block assists,” PW coach Dave Stewart said. “Solid defense turned into offensive opportunities, and the team was able to overcome the pushes by the Haverford team.”
PW (4-0, 1-0 SOL) will prepare for a SOL American Conference showdown with rival Hatboro-Horsham at Hatboro next Tuesday.

 

Wednesday, Sept. 8
CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 3, NORTH PENN 1 (16-25, 25-13, 25-17, 25-19)
The Bucks received contributions up and down their lineup in Wednesday’s win over the Knights.
Alexis Barklage had another big game at the net, contributing 11 kills, four aces and five blocks. Hollis Walton also came up big, finishing with six kills and five blocks, and Mackenzie Lund added five kills, one block and two digs. Lily Rasnake had five kills and one assist. Caroline Taylor (14 digs, 2 kills, 2 aces, 2 assists) and Alexa Lee (10 digs, 4 aces, 1 kill) led the defense. Setter Elisa Kremser had 12 assists and one blocks. Rachel Hu (4 kills, 1 ace, 6 digs) and Presley Adams (4 aces, 1 dig) also contributed.
Central Bucks West (4-1, 1-0 SOL) will host Quakertown on Tuesday, and North Penn (3-3, 0-2) will travel to Central Bucks East on Tuesday.
