First half 0 – 0
The game was scoreless for the first 65 minutes. We had multiple chances to score but couldn’t put one away. New Hope was dangerous on the counter during that time but our defense of Kate Yocom, Brianna Reynolds, Katie Lukens, and Meghan Wendler were up for the challenge. With just under 15 minutes to go in the second half, junior Caelin Kosvitch – who dominated the midfield all day - receives a pass on our side of midfield and bombs a ball up to our two freshmen up top, Maddie McGuckien and Keira Whelan. Keira and Maddie attack the bouncing ball, Maddie tips it past the keeper and Whelan scores her first Varsity goal to put us up 1 – 0.
3 minutes later, Maddie McGuckien wins a tackle in midfield and plays a ball through to senior, Angelina Balcer. Angelina, who was dangerous in attack all night, takes a tough and rifles a shot past the keeper. Angelina’s work rate throughout this game was terrific. She didn’t get frustrated about her early chances; she just kept working.
With 2 and a half minutes left in the game, senior Ella Clark finds senior Kate Yocom on a trail pass way out towards the touchline and Yocom hits a beautiful strike far post to score her first of the season.
New Hope’s goalkeeper was terrific in net all day, making multiple saves.
I’d like to highlight a terrific battle out on the flanks between PW freshman Marleigh Burton and New Hope’s #1 Nina Meixler. Both players attacked each other all night. It was fun to watch.
Junior keeper Caitlyn Dinh was terrific in net and we were able to play her feet multiple times to get our attack going.
The two assists from Maddie McGuckien are just another reason for us to be excited about the multitude of freshmen getting Varsity minutes for PW Girls Soccer.
