#11 PENNSBURY 3, #22 OWEN J ROBERTS 1 (25-23, 25-11, 21-25, 25-23)
The Falcons overcame the Wildcats in four challenging sets. The first two sets went the Falcons way, but the Wildcats came on strong the third set and the fourth was a back-and-forth battle with the Falcons prevailing in the end.
Kiersten Adair led the Falcons with 11 kills and seven digs. Claire MacElroy had a strong night with seven kills and one block. Brigitte Burns came off the bench to help the Falcons with six kills, two aces and nine digs. Also contributing for the Falcons were Jocelyn Fang (5 kills, 2 digs), Ainsley Dysart (2 kills, 3 digs), Natalie Johnson (1 kill, 3 blocks) and Sami Love (2 aces, 2digs) .
Caroline Croteau (1 kill, 5 digs) ) and Faith Szumagala (5 digs) shared setting duties. Brynn Magee led the defense with 15 digs and one ace. Stephanie Adamousky led the Falcons in service aces with four.
Pennsbury (14-4, 10-2 SOL) will travel to #8 WC East on Thursday.
#19 BISHOP SHANAHAN 3, #14 WILLIAM TENNENT 2 (25-23, 17-25, 16-25, 28-26, 13-15)
The Panthers lost a heartbreaker in a five-set marathon, turning in a gutsy performance that left coach Brian Bassler feeling nothing but pride.
“I really can’t put into words how I feel about our team’s effort and never- say-die attitude tonight,” the Panthers’ coach said. “They are an incredible group of young ladies, and they played so hard through so many long rallies. The match was about two-and-a-half hours long. The fans were loud, our bench was loud and supportive, it was a great environment.”
The match included several remarkable comebacks by the Panthers, who did not go down quietly.
“We came back from 20-24 down in set four to win and climbed back from 10-14 in set five to make it 13-14,” Bassler said. “One of our senior middles Charlotte Reeves was on a service run and almost got an ace short to tie it up.
“Our seniors are such great leaders and played so hard, and the underclassmen really grew up tonight. Our defense and effort were just insane as every girl stepped up”
Junior Addy Criss had 39 digs, sophomore Marguax Kellum had 19 and five aces, including two in order to close out set four. Sophomore Izzy Goebel had 14, senior Allyson Brown had 13 and senior Liv Clee had 12. Setter Izzy Goebel dished out 32 assists.
Up front, Senior Charlotte Reeves had 10 kills and 4 blocks, and she also added 9 digs. Senior Georgie Thorpe had four kills and three blocks. Sophomore Lauren Marsland had 10 kills and sophomore Emmerson McElhinney had six kills.
William Tennent (7-5 SOL) closed out its season with a 16-8 record.
#21 SPRING-FORD 3, #12 CENTRAL BUCKS WEST 0 (26-28-24-26, 22-25)
The visiting Rams earned a sweep of the 12th-seeded Bucks, but it was anything but easy.
For the Bucks, Alexis Barklage led the way with 10 kills and one block. Rachel Hu added five kills, one ace and eight digs, and Hollis Walton had six kills and one ace. Erin Ferello had nine assists, nine digs and one ace, and Elisa Kremser had nine assists and one kill. Caroline Taylor contributed nine digs, one ace and two assists while Amber Woodring had seven digs and one assist. Presley Adams chipped in three kills and one dig, and Alexa Lee had two aces and five digs.
Central Bucks West (9-3 SOL) closed out its season with a 13-5 record overall.
#10 DOWNINGTOWN WEST 3, #23 SOUDERTON 0
The Indians were swept by the Whippets in Monday’s opening round district match.
Teya McConoaha (8 kills, 5 digs), Kay Guessford (6 kills, 2 digs, 1 ace) and McKenna Murawski (5 kills, 10 digs) led the way at the net. Alexa Mazzeo had 10 digs and one assists, and setter Grace Boyd contributed 13 assists, two aces and one dig.
Souderton (6-6 SOL) closed out its season with a 12-9 record.
