PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach: Dan Dougherty (11thSeason)

Assistant coaches: TJ DeLucia, Bridgette McKnight, Mike Tornambe, Brendan Watton

Last year’s record:

  • Overall: 34 – 0 (Won 6A State and District 1 Championships)
  • Liberty Division: 16 – 0 (Won Liberty Division for 3rdstraight, 5thtime in 6 years, also won SOL Tournament Championship)

Notable losses:

  • Kaitlyn Flanagan – 1stTeam all-state  and all-league, now playing at Holy Cross College
  • Lainey Allen – 2ndteam all-state, 1stTeam all-league, now playing at UMES
  • Jordyn Thomas – 2ndteam all-league, now playing (redshirt) at Jefferson University
  • Fiona Gooneratne – attending Penn State (main campus)

Key returners:

  • Abby Sharpe (12th/Guard) – 1stTeam all-state and all-leauge, UPenn Commit
  • Erin Daley (12th/Forward) – 3rdTeam all-state, 2ndteam all-league, uncommitted at this time
  • Angelina Balcer (12th/Guard) – Chestnut Hill (soccer and bball) Commit

Strengths: Experience of the returning seniors, all of which were important part of state championship run last season.

Question Marks: “The ability of new players to embrace their roles on the team, and grow in those roles as season progresses.”

Outlook:  “As we begin the 2022-23 season, we are looking to continue the growing tradition of PW Girls Basketball as one of the best programs in the area. Our #1 goal for the season is to be playing our best basketball come February and March so that we can try to defend our SOL, District, and State Championship titles.”
