GOLDEN HAWKS OPEN DUAL SEASON WITH BIG WIN

Holland, PA - Council Rock South looked real good downing SOL out-of-conference foe Pennridge by the score of 33-27 to open both teams dual seasons Wednesday night in the Golden Hawk Arena. The Golden Hawks were introduced wearing their traditional robes, and from the first whistle, it was all business.
Connor Lenahan (CRS) was impressive in the first bout (107-pounds) of the match defeating feisty Colby Martinelli (Pennridge) 3-2. It was Martinelli’s first match of the year, as two of District One’s best kicked off the meet. CR South added bonus points at 114-pounds as Christian Zimmerman decked the Rams’ Cole Meenan jumping out to a 9-0 lead in the team score. Another match featuring highly touted grapplers at 121-pounds in Cole Coffin (P) versus super-frosh Pat Woloshyn (CRS) saw the Rams get on the board, as Coffin blanked the freshman 4-0. Coffin rode tough on top shutting down Woloshyn as he could not score off the bottom in the third period.
Pennridge’s Quinn McBride pinned Cain Lawler at 127-pounds knotting the team score at 9-9. From there CR South took over, winning five of the next six bouts and earning bonus points with falls by Ben Brillhart (139), Gavin Cole (160) and Bekhruz Sadriddinov (172) to extend their lead to 33-15. That essentially locked up the dual victory, as they held the tie-breaker criteria with seven wins if the Rams were able to post three falls at the top end of the lineup.
Perhaps it was a much-improved Andrew Lindros, at 152-pounds, that clinched it for the Golden Hawks as he edged the ‘Ridge’s explosive Gio Iadonisi 8-6 in an entertaining match. Sam Kuhns gave the Rams some hope at 145-pounds with a fall, but Ajay Bhatt’s first match of the year for the Golden Hawks at 133-pounds notching a 5-2 decision over Anthony Granite, followed by Brillhart’s pin, but CRS had already doubled the Rams up in the team score at 18-9. CRS head coach Brad Silimperi was able to shuffle up Bek Sadriddinov to 172-pounds to face a rugged Ram in Talan Hogan, Sadridinnov was put to his back early by Hogan, but rebounded with a workman-like effort to get the fall in the second period putting the Rams away. The one-two-punch of Sadriddinov and Gavin Cole at 160 and 172 
will pay dividends throughout the dual season for the Golden Hawks.
Saddridinov said after the match that the team has put in a lot of hard work and was impressed with the improvement of Lindros. He also called lightweight Connor Lenahan a “beast” with his effort over Martinelli. Additionally, he added that the Golden Hawks schedule is loaded with tough opponents as they prepare for the ultimate prize come March 2023 in Hershey in both the PIAA Team and Individual Championships.
UPCOMNG COMPETITIONS: Council Rock South faces off against traditional Pioneer Athletic Conference power Spring-Ford Saturday at S-F. Pennridge will join other SOL teams CR North and Souderton at the Brian Bealer Bear Duals hosted by Boyertown Saturday. In action tonight for the first time will be William Tennent versus Upper Dublin. Upper Dublin appears to be an up-and-coming dual team with young talent led by Senior Dan Gorman who was 23-9 last season with a SE Region appearance. Both teams have increased their rosters, and this should be a very competitive dual that will feature many newcomers.
Abington will host the Ghost Town Duals on Saturday with Bensalem, Truman and Pennsbury participating. Norristown hosts the Chuck Springer Memorial Duals with Plymouth-Whitemarsh and Lower Moreland attending, and at Upper Merion in the Franny Lutz Duals Tennent, Upper Moreland & CB West will compete. Quakertown hosts a JV/Girls tournament this weekend.
