Laney Freiband – Cornell University (Softball)

Major:  Biometry & Statistics

Final list of colleges: Cornell, Furman

Reasons for choosing Cornell: “I was looking at a bunch of high academic D3s in the Northeast area, but something about them just didn’t feel right, and then I found Cornell, and it was a quick process for me to commit. Everything when I stepped on the campus felt right. Everybody talks about that feeling, but I actually felt that at Cornell.”

What was the progression that led you to committing to competing in softball at the collegiate level?  “I have played softball since I was eight, but once I hit 12U, I started playing in travel tournaments. People in my program started committing to college, and I realized it was a reality and something I could do, so I really worked hard towards it.”

Coach Frank McSherry says:  “Laney played first base, and she also saw time as designated player, and she did a great job. She’s a pitcher by trade, but it was a tough lineup to break into as a pitcher. She did a great job – she had some really big hits for us, so as a senior, we’re expecting some big things from her, and she’s just a sweetheart of a kid. She’s a bright kid, and she’s beyond nice and a good teammate.”
