Isabella Fisher – Temple University (Crew)
Major: Neuroscience
Final list of colleges: St. Joseph’s University, Drexel University, Thomas Jefferson University, Duquesne University, Sacred Heart University
Reasons for choosing Temple: “Temple offered me the athletic and academic combination that fit my search most closely. Not only are the academic programs strong, but I also wanted the challenge of competing on a D1 women’s rowing team. This will provide a path towards competing at my highest collegiate potential. The Temple campus environment is welcoming, comfortable and beautiful. I originally thought I would prefer a more suburban college campus, but I am so glad I stayed open minded to a city option. I am excited to continue my academic and athletic career at Temple University. Go Owls!”
What was the progression that led you to competing in crew at the collegiate level? “After my first season of rowing, I knew that it was something I wanted to do long term. Not only am I able to keep athletically fit and mentally focused, but the rowing community is an amazing environment. Lifetime friendships grow organically due to the nature of ‘team’ focus. You learn that everyone brings a strength to the team and to collectively compensate for individual weaknesses. I’ve learned the values of trust, goal setting and commitment.
“The recruiting process started in sophomore year, touring possible schools to identify and narrow down my list. I invested a lot of time with each coach through constant emails, texts and meetings from initial contact through official athletic overnight visits and eventual decision. There’s so much to evaluate in order to feel confident in your decision, so I needed to start early.”
