Lucy Mills (in her first varsity start) did a great job in the circle for us keeping the Calvary bats at bay, and for the most part our defenders played solid behind her. I was particularly happy with Kayla Ripper in right field getting her first 9-3 assist on a ground ball through the right side that was likely the hardest hit ball of the day. I told Kayla before the season started that I wanted her to learn to play right field, because with her ability to use a combination of infield and outfield skills she can produce extra outs for us in that way. Her hard work in learning this is starting to show now, so that was really nice to see.
Calvary was a very classy team, and I was particularly impressed with their pitcher. She did a nice job battling, and never gave up regardless of the score. She came up with 7 strikeouts through the final three innings after going down 10 - 0 on the scoreboard in the second inning. That shows fantastic grit, and I think that will take them far moving forward.
