National Conference
Pennsbury 3, Bensalem 2
Pennsbury topped Bensalem in five sets on Thursday as the Falcons moved into a tie with the Owls atop the National Conference.
Rohan Patel had 26 digs for Bensalem. Veer Patel had 34 assists, 2 kills, and 1 ace, while Jack Wineburg had 15 kills, 1 block, and 1 ace. Jahaan Patel recorded 8 kills and 4 blocks, while Vraj Patel had 6 kills in the middle.
Pennsbury improves to 9-1 in National Conference play, 11-2 overall. The Falcons will visit William Tennent at 7 pm Tuesday. Bensalem falls to 9-2, 13-2, and will look to rebound today at 5 pm in a nonleague matchup against St. Joseph’s Prep.
William Tennent 3, Neshaminy 2 (25-20, 21-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-9)
After falling behind 2-1, William Tennent rallied to win the final 2 sets to pull out a 3-2 win over Neshaminy in Thursday’s National Conference matchup. The Panthers received contributions up and down their lineup.
David Dziekonski led the Panthers at the net. His big night included 13 kills, two blocks, one ace and eight digs. Connor Tucholski added nine kills and two blocks while John Ellis had eight kills, three blocks and 11 digs. Sean Stewart had seven kills and 11 digs, Sean Kelly contributed five kills and five blocks while Eric Korchuk had four kills and four digs. Setter Nick Buono handed out 37 assists and also had two blocks, one ace and 10 digs. Anthony Buono's 18 digs led the defense. He also had one ace. Samuel Vernick contributed nine digs and one ace.
For the Redskins, John Nice (1 ace, 21 kills, 9 digs, 2 assists) and Beknazar Baiyshbekov (1 ace, 15 kills, 9 digs) had huge nights. El-Mansur Sagalive came up with 3 aces, 3 kills, 10 digs, and 43 assists for Neshaminy, which also got contributions from Liam Smith (3 kills, 1 block), Toby Kovaschetz (7 digs), Brandon Sloskey (2 aces, 6 kills, 4 digs, 1 assist), Aiden Hastings (2 kills, 2 digs, 2 assists), and Ruhan Jaikaria (1 dig).
"Tennent is a very well coached team that continued to push us all night long,” said Neshaminy coach Pat Klingerman. “Credit to them for battling throughout the match. They had a lot of great touches on the ball. We need to do a better job at following the game plan and having discipline in our schemes during the match from all our players moving forward."
Tennent improves to 8-3 in National Conference play, 8-4 overall, and will host Pennsbury at 7 pm Tuesday. Neshaminy moves to 6-5, 8-6, and will host Abington at 7 pm Tuesday.
Abington 3, Council Rock South 0
It was a Senior Night to remember at Abington, as the Ghosts swept Council Rock South on Thursday on the strength of its three seniors.
Zach Miller had 9 kills, 3 aces (0.375 average), 4 blocks, and 9 assists on the night for the Ghosts. Kai Savadove had 3 kills (0.400 average) and a block from the middle, while Nikolay Grinyuk had 4 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces.
Other major contributors for the Ghosts were Jack Scharnikow (6 kills, 0.461 average, 2 blocks), Brendan Dougherty (4 kills, 14 assists), and Garrett Mulvihill (7 digs).
The Ghosts improve to 4-8 in National Conference play, 5-10 overall, and will host Central Bucks East at 5 pm Monday. South remains winless at 0-11, 0-12, and will host Central Bucks South at 5 pm today.
American Conference
Central Bucks East 3, Pennridge 2 (15-25, 16-25, 25-16, 25-20, 15-11)
In a five-set battle, Central Bucks East battled back after dropping the first two sets to sweep the final three and stun American Conference frontrunner Pennridge 3-2. The loss was the first of the conference season for a Pennridge squad ranked eighth in the state in the latest PVCA Volleyball rankings.
East standouts were Reid Miller with 14 kills, 3 blocks, a dig and an ace, Matt LaBouliere with 14 kills, 12 assists, 5 aces, 2 blocks, and 10 digs, and AJ Helveston with 4 kills and 4 digs. Rhys Marshall directed the offense, dishing out 23 assists, 2 aces, and 2 digs, and defensive stars included Steve DiRugeris with 5 digs, Aiden Leichter with 9 digs, and Sean Figus. At the net, Ethan Scott collected 5 blocks, and 2 kills, and Pat Haurin contributed 3 big kills, including match point, and a dig. Liam Donnelly, Ryan Coxey, and Shane Sutton were also key contributors for the Patriots.
For Pennridge, Evan Jalosinski posted 49 assists, Jude Rotondo had 19 kills and 11 digs, Bryce Ammon had 14 kills (.700) and 2 blocks, Aaron Ladd recorded 5 kills and 5 aces, Thomas McKinney had 7 kills and 6 digs, Logan Jalosinski picked up 6 kills and 3 aces, and Ty Porter chipped in with 8 digs.
With the victory, East improves to 7-4 in American Conference play, 7-5 overall. The Patriots will host Wissahickon at 5 pm today. Pennridge drops to 10-1, 10-1, and will host Central Bucks West at 6:30 pm Tuesday.
Souderton 3, Central Bucks South 0
Nate Brown posted 21 kills, 8 digs, and 2 aces and Levi Leatherman dished out 29 assists as Souderton rolled to a 3-set victory over Central Bucks South in Thursday’s American Conference game.
Ian Nice had 6 kills and 9 digs for Souderton, Derek Gilmore had 4 kills and 2 blocks, and Alec Kreiser added 8 digs.
Souderton improves to 7-4 in American Conference play, 8-6 overall, and will host Council Rock South at 6 pm Monday. The Titans move to 5-6, 5-7, and will visit Council Rock South at 5 pm today.
Central Bucks West 3, North Penn 2
After dropping the first two sets, Central Bucks West took the final three to pull out a 3-2 (17-25, 21-25, 25-13, 25-18, 15-11) victory over the Knights in Thursday’s American Conference matchup.
Dean Nguyen led West with 13 kills, 4 aces, and 18 digs. Cooper Tyksinski contributed 6 kills and 5 blocks, while Oliver Hu had 9 kills and 4 digs, John Craine chipped in with 2 kills and 3 digs, Caleb Woodring picked up 21 digs, and Liam Boyle dished out 33 assists.
West improves to 4-7 in American Conference play, 6-9 overall. The Bucks will visit Pennridge at 6:30 pm Tuesday. North Penn drops to 2-9, 3-9, and will host LaSalle College High School at 6:30 pm today, then returns to league play at Central Bucks South at 6 pm Tuesday.
