Game Recap:
Kaitlyn Small led off the 2nd inning with a triple to left field. She would score on Maddie Small's RBI single to center field. Kaitlyn Zacharia reached base safely on an infield miscue, and Lizzie Tambourino added an RBI single later in the inning, followed by a hit by Rayla Kratchman to load the bases. Kaelin Penna hit a bases-clearing double to left field and reached 3rd on a misplayed cutoff throw. She would score on an RBI groundout by Bella Fiore to put UD up 6-0. Kyla Garrison had retired the 1st nine batters she faced (7 Ks), but Avery Groh would reach base in the bottom of the 4th inning on an infield error, and would later score on Hayden Sissons RBI single to center field. Kaitlyn Zacharia would then turn an infield double play to end the inning. UD would answer with 2 more runs in the top of the 5th. M. Small led off the inning with a walk, and both her and Zacharia were safe on a fielder's choice. Rayla Kratchman came up with 2 outs and hit a double to left field to plate both Zacharia and Tamborino (safe on another fielder's choice) to make the score 8-1. O'Hara had a 1-out baserunner (walk) in the bottom of the inning, but back-to-back strikeouts ended the threat. Upper Dublin would open the top of the 6th inning with a hit by Garrison. Courtesy runner Meredith McKenna would reach third on a throwing error. Madden Reilly walked (courtesy runner Emeline Bell), and Bella Fiore followed with a 2-run single to plate McKenna & Bell (Fiore advanced to 2nd on the throw). K. Small followed with an RBI single to plate Fiore. M. Small followed with her 2nd hit of the day, followed by an RBI groundout by Eleanor Blough (pinch hitter) and RBI single by Katelyn Gamburg (pinch hitter) to round out the scoring. Garrison closed out the bottom half of the frame with a strikeout, groundout, and strikeout to O'Hara's last three hitters.
Upper Dublin wins its 1st ever PIAA state tournament debut in school history. We will face the winner of Northern York (#3-1) and Hatboro Horsham (#1-3) on Thursday, June 8th.
