Raegan Vesey – Mount St. Mary’s University (Swimming)
Major: Secondary Education/Special Education
Final list of colleges: Mount St. Mary’s, UMass Amherst, James Madison, Northern State University
Reasons for choosing Mount St. Mary’s: “I really liked the team atmosphere and coaches. I also loved the campus and class sizes.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level? “I knew it was always the ultimate goal to swim in college, but I had to know if I could mentally keep doing it and physically keep up because it gets more taxing as you get older and get into the recruiting process. It was solidified in ninth grade that I could swim in college.”
Coach Jacob Grant says: “Raegan was a captain for us this year, and she was a great leader in and out of the water for the girls on the team. She came in every day putting in the work to continue to get better. She actually committed before her senior season so she could have a nice, stress-free senior year season. Her primary event is the 100 breaststroke, but she also chose to swim some IM and did actually get into some freestyle races this year and got some great times in those. She had a great end of season for us at champs. She went season bests in both the IM and the breaststroke, which was her main focus. I’m very excited to watch her move on to the collegiate level. She has been talking about swimming in college ever since I met her, and I’m so excited to watch her live out her dream at the Mount, and I wish her the best of luck.”
