On Thursday, March 2, 2023, Central Bucks South senior Noah Moelter was recognized for committing to continue his golf career at St. Joseph’s University.
Noah Moelter – St. Joseph’s University (Golf)
Major: Business Intelligence & Analytics
Final list of colleges: St. Joe’s, Gettysburg
Reasons for choosing St. Joe’s: “St. Joe’s is close to my house, but it doesn’t feel like I’m right next door. Being the Atlantic 10, it was my best opportunity to play against high quality competition in a good conference. It’s Division 1, and I know some of the people going next year so that made it a good fit.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in golf at the collegiate level? “My freshman year I tried out for the team, played on jayvee the entire year. I was not very good. My second year I was on varsity and made it to leagues but didn’t make it to districts, missed the cut by one stroke. My junior year I made it to districts but didn’t get to states. That’s when I was thinking about trying to play in college. I really picked up my practice and how I was playing that year. This year I finished third in leagues, fourth in districts and qualified for states and finished sixth in states, so it was good. It was a nice progression all the way up until the end of the year. It felt good to actually play well when it mattered instead of just falling away when I wanted to be my best.”
Coach Tom Hill says: “Noah’s freshman year he was a jayvee player, and he came into his own coming into his junior year. Part of it was he fell in love with the game, he committed to it and got involved in tournament play, so it wasn’t just a seasonal thing for him. The biggest jump was going from his junior to his senior year. He’s always been a really good tournament player, but he wasn’t a phenom who showed up in ninth grade and was on varsity since then. He really had to work for it, and he did it on his own time.
“Noah is the third player in South history to make it to states, and he finished sixth, which is the highest achievement ever by a CB South golfer. The conditions at states were cold and windy. There was probably 10 of them that were a couple over par and par but it was just solid, consistent play. He also was named The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Golfer of the Year.
“Character-wise, he’s one of the best. He’s a wonderful young man. His junior year we had a bunch of extra golf bags, and he was able to reach out to First Tee in Philadelphia. He set up a contact, and we were able to donate some golf bags, but he took the lead looking into that. Academically, he’s a really strong student, he’s dedicated to his studies. He’s stellar kid overall.”
