On Wednesday, May 10, 2023, Central Bucks South senior Erin Goodling was recognized for committing to continue her swimming career at Fairfield University.
Erin Goodling – Fairfield University (Swimming)
Major: Mathematics or Computer Science
Final list of colleges: Fairfield, Delaware
Reasons for choosing Fairfield: “When I got near the end of my decision process, I was either swimming at Farifield or not swimming and going to Delaware, but I honestly couldn’t imagine not swimming. When I took a visit to Fairfield in October, the team felt like a family – they were really welcoming, and you could tell they were all super close. Nothing felt forced, I loved the campus, and the coaches were great too.”
What was the progression that led you to compete in swimming at the collegiate level? “My freshman and sophomore year I just did the sport to stay in shape. I didn’t really take it as seriously as I do now, and then my junior year is when things really started to change, and I made a lot of progress within the sport and my love for it. Senior year when the season ended, I was like, ‘I can’t imagine not doing this for the next four years,’ so that really made my decision.”
Coach Dale Johnson says: “Erin Goodling is one of the hardest workers that I had in the pool this entire year. She always approached every single practice with a gamer mentality. She walked onto the pool deck at all of our meets knowing she was one of the fastest breaststrokers in the state, and she just proved it time and time again. Not only does she have the talent, but she backed it up with the hard work, and all throughout the season, she continued to improve and repeated what she did last year, which was making the ‘B’ final at states which was just an incredible achievement to represent your school on the biggest stage and then to make it back for the ‘B’ final.”
