Reasons for choosing Millersville: “I really liked the campus and how competitive the team was, and the coach was real loving, brought my family.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “One reason why I thought I was going to play in college was when I was working hard junior year. I was not the best sophomore year, I wasn’t motivated, but junior year I really stepped up and started working out and everything, and it gave me motivation senior year.”
Coach Dick Beck says: “Mikai was first team all-league offensive tackle junior year and first team all-league unanimous choice as a senior and first team all-area. When we watched Mikai as a sophomore, we thought he had great potential, but you get worried whether these kids can get focused during the offseason and how much they’re going to work. I remember sitting in the weight room and telling the coaches – ‘If there’s one guy as a sophomore I want to start as a junior, it’s Mikai Greene because he has worked so hard.’ First of all, he has great size for an offensive lineman, but also his work ethic and the way he goes about working hard – he always has a smile on his face, always has a bounce in his step. People always ask me who my favorite players are, and I’m not afraid to say that it’s Mikai Greene because he’s such a hard worker, and he’s so easy to coach. He reacts very positively to coaching, and he’s very dependable. He chose Millersville, and I think he’s going to do an outstanding job. He was their top recruit on their offensive line. He had many offers. I think he’ll go there and be a star and fit in there very well. I’m very proud and happy with the way he’s developed, not just as a football player and athlete but as a human being. I can’t wait to see him in the future.”

Reasons for choosing Millersville: “The one thing that really stood out to me about Millersville – when I went to visit, I really connected with the QB coach, and he was making sure my family was all right. He was just making sure everything was okay with me, and that really stuck out to me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in football at the collegiate level? “I’ve been playing sports since I was super young, and I really can’t imagine what my life would be without sports. It would just be weird – I feel as though I need sports in my life.”
Coach Dick Beck says: “Going into his freshman year, I’d heard he was a very good football player and had a great arm, so we asked him to come up and throw with us during the summer, so we could evaluate him. As soon as we saw him throw, I said, ‘This guy is our backup quarterback.’ We had a senior who we thought was going to be a very good player, and he gets hurt in the first game, and guess who becomes the starting quarterback? Ryan Zellt. He started eight games his freshman year and was just phenomenal. For a freshman, his maturity, his composure was just incredible, and he only built on that as he went through his entire career. His statistics are a little mindboggling if you understand anything about football statistics. He threw for over 6,600 yards as a high school football player. His senior year, we had 12 games, and he threw for over 3,000 yards with a completion rate above 70 percent. He threw 28 touchdowns and five interceptions. Statistically, he was through the roof. He’s probably the most prolific offensive player that’s ever played at North Penn High School. The statistic that is even more mindboggling is that in four years – Ryan never missed a practice. He didn’t even stay home sick. If he got sick, he didn’t stay home. He never missed one practice in four years. That’s an unbelievable feat – I’ve never had a player like that, and for the position that he played, if he had missed practice, I would have been panicking, so I would have remembered if he missed a practice. That bodes well for him to be very dependable. He loved coming and had a great attitude. He was not your typical quarterback where you’ve got arrogance and guys worrying about – what’s their uniform look like, what’s he wearing underneath his helmet, what kind of paint he’s got on his face, if he’s got wristband on. I used to tell him, ‘Clean up a little bit - tuck your shirt in.’ He didn’t care about that. He just wanted to go out and play football. That’s all he cared about, and boy, did he do it and do it in a great fashion throughout his four years. As a junior, he was a unanimous first team all-league selection, and he was first team all-state. His senior year, he was first team all-league, first team all-area, first team all-everything. He just had a phenomenal year. In my opinion, he was really under-recruited. I think what happened at Millersville is going to be great for him – he’ll be one of the best players ever. I expect a great career for him as he moves on to the next level.”
