Pennsbury to Hold Patriot Division Showcase

A free – yes, free - prospect event for uncommitted 11^th and 12^th grade boys' basketball players from the SOL Patriot Division will be held at Pennsbury High School East on Saturday, Oct. 8, from 9-11 a.m. The event will feature individual player development drills and 5v5 competitive games.

“We’re not charging anybody anything,” Pennsbury boys' basketball coach Wes Emme said. “We’re actually paying money to host this event out of our booster club.

“We have five people from our senior class that all are being recruited by similar level schools, but they’re all being recruited by different schools at the same time. I thought about the other teams in our division – they’re similar too.

“They’re all being recruited, but I don’t hear much from it, so I thought, ‘You know what – why don’t we get them all in a gym together at the same time. They’re all similar level, uncommitted players, and we’ll invite only the returning varsity guys from the junior and senior class.'"

Emme turned that idea into a reality and invited over a hundred college coaches to the event

“Granted, a hundred won’t be there,  but we’re expecting between 15-20 schools to be in the gym and have direct access to players,” the Pennsbury coach said. “When you’re Division 3, there are no rules in terms of recruiting, so they can talk to whoever they want to however long they want to.

“My job is to help them get to wherever they want to get to, and the avenue is basketball. The one thing I think we really know how to do is to sell kids, show them the way, and whether they do the work is on them, but this is something I can do for them that’s free. All it costs is time.”

Each college coach that attends will receive a player profile packet with academic and athletic profiles of each player.

“It’s for our division – we have a lot of kids that have spent a lot of time growing up in the game and wanting to pursue the game at the next level, and this is something we can do to help promote them," Emme said.
