Neshaminy Girls' Basketball Preview

NESHAMINY GIRLS’ BASKETBALL PREVIEW

Coach: John Gallagher Third year

Assistant coaches: Nick Reisig and Megan Gallagher

Last year’s record: 21-8 Patriot Division Champs, D1 Fifth seed and state playoff appearance in back-to-back years for the first time in school history. Lost in first round of States to eventual champion Archbishop Carroll

Notable losses:  Taylor Gurysh (Kutztown), Jess Purdy and Lindsay Little

Key returners:  Ava Irizarry 12th, Alena Cofield 11th, Reese Zemitis12th and Lola Ibarrondo 12th
Senior Lola Ibarrondo (signed Holy Family will score her 1,000th point this season), Senior Reese Zemitis (signed Bucknell will also score her 1,000th point this season), Junior Alena Cofield, leading offensive rebounder, excellent defender who has improved each year and has added a three-point shot to her game (scored 20 points vs Upper Dublin in District one playoff game)

Others to watch:  9thgraders - Hayley Kolk, Grace Weyler, Ashlyn Duffy and Mia Raivich

Strengths/Question Marks:  The Lady Skins are deeper than in years past due to several ninth graders vying for varsity minutes.  The leadership and guidance being provided to these younger players by senior co-captains Lola Ibarrondo and Reese Zemitis has been invaluable to their development. At the same time, being dependent on younger players to fill varsity minutes comes with challenges.  The team will embrace these challenges in an effort to make a late season run.

Outlook: The Lady Skins expect to again compete for the extremely competitive Patriot Division and advance deep into SOL, District 1 and State playoffs.  The further development of junior Alena Cofield into an all-around skilled player will be a huge boost to this year’s team.”
