Central Bucks East Inducts Four into Hall of Fame

Four former student athletes were inducted into the CB East Athletic Hall of Fame during the weekend of Dec. 8. The inductees were honored at halftime of the home basketball game against CB South on Friday and were then formally inducted into the Hall of Fame at a luncheon on Saturday in the East cafeteria.

Joe Carlon, from the Class of 1994, participated in three varsity sports over his time at East, while serving as a captain in all three and earning a total of nine letters. As a baseball player, Joe hit .434 his senior year and represented CB East as the shortstop for the Suburban One Championship Team that competed in the Carpenter Cup. Moreover, Joe was named to the Philadelphia Inquirer’s First Team during his junior and senior seasons. In addition to baseball, Joe was one of the best basketball players in school history, where he was First Team All-SOL over his final two years and holds the school record for most points in one season at 588. Finally, as a football player, Joe started two seasons at quarterback and threw for 1,900 yards over his stellar career. After his graduation, Joe played college baseball at the University of Pennsylvania and is in the Quakers’ Hall of Fame where he was named to the All-Decade Team for the 1990s.

Rachael Bloemkr, Class of 2001, excelled in field hockey and track and field. A four-time letterwinner and arguably the best defensive field hockey player in school history, Rachael helped lead CB East to three SOL Championships and the 2000 District One title, where the team ended up finishing as the state runner-up. During that magical season. Rachael was the team captain and MVP, First Team All-State, and an All-Area All-Star. In addition, Rachael was an all-around track and field star and twice set school records in the pole vault, topping at 10 feet. In 1999, Rachael, the SOL Champion in the pole vault, earned three District One medals, and qualified for states. After she graduated from East, Rachael went to Drexel University and was a two-time MVP and Third Team NCAA All-American for field hockey, while also earning a spot as a member of the USA Indoor National Team from 2008-16.

Bradley Vierling, who graduated in 2005, was a three-sport Varsity athlete in football, basketball, and track and field, while serving as a captain in all three and earning a total of eight letters. On the gridiron, he was a three-time All-SOL offensive tackle and defensive end. Additionally, Bradley earned All-State honors in 2005 and represented Pennsylvania in the “Big 33” Game. On top of his skills as a football player, Bradley had incredible success as a thrower competing in the discus and shotput. In the discus, Bradley holds the school record with a throw of 180’3” and was the 2005 District One champion in the shotput, earning All-State honors and being named SOL Champion three times in both events. Moreover, Bradley lettered twice in basketball, and upon graduation, he played football at the University of Vanderbilt where he was drafted into the NFL by the Pittsburgh Steelers before spending two years with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Devon Passman, Class of 2009, was also a three-sport Varsity athlete who earned nine letters in wrestling, football, and track, while twice serving as captain for the wrestling squad. With a career record of 141-36 on the mat, Devon ranks second in school history for wins and was a two-time state qualifier where he earned sixth place in 2009. Additionally, Devon won three Section Two wrestling championships and qualified for the Southeast Regionals four straight years. Furthermore, on the football field, Devon was a two-time East MVP who earned two First Team All-SOL honors, while he amassed 1,279 all-purpose yards in his senior season and played in the Bucks County All-Star Game. Finally, as a track star, Devon used his speed in the 100 and 200-m dashes to help lead his team to a successful season. After graduating high school Devon attended East Stroudsburg and is now serving as the assistant wrestling coach at East.
