Nonleague
Bensalem 3, Dock Mennonite Academy 2 (18-25, 22-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-13)
After dropping the first 2 sets to Christopher Dock, the Owls rallied back from a 2-set deficit for the second time this week.
“I am extremely proud of this group,” coach Tim Linehan said. “They are an experienced bunch of guys who have seen it all at this point. They kept their mind’s right, fought back and earned another big win this week.”
The Owls were led by Jahaan Patel’s 20 kills.
“Once again Jahaan stepped up in big spots like he has been doing all year,” Linehan said.
Dev Patel (12 kills 2 aces 1 block 14 digs) had a strong all-around performance to go with the match winning kill. Billy Bibeck (6 kills 4 blocks) and Vraj Patel (4 kills 2 blocks) both stepped up with big plays at the net in the final set.
“Vraj’s block was enormous,” Linehan said. “It was a huge momentum play for us down the stretch.”
Yosuf Khan (8 kills 1 block), Veer Patel (11 digs), Shiv Patel (3 aces 2 digs) and Roman Walsh (10 digs 2 kills) all contributed key plays at their spots throughout the match.
The offense was run by Veer Patel (47 assists 15 digs 1 kill 1 block), who continues to improve defensively for Bensalem. Libero Luv Patel (career-high 40 digs 1 ace) was everywhere for the Owls. Bensalem (10-1, 5-1 SOL) heads to the Haverford Tournament Saturday.
Unionville 3, Souderton 2
Souderton took it to a fifth set, but ultimately fell to Unionville 3-2 in Friday’s nonleague matchup.
Derek Stefanowicz had 24 kills, 6 digs, and 2 blocks for Souderton. Everett Self chipped in with 10 kills and 13 digs, Colton Musselman had 3 kills, 7 digs, and 3 blocks, and Kelly Kim had 39 assists and 6 digs.
Souderton moves to 5-7 overall (3-5 in American Conference play) and visits Haverford High Saturday for an invitational tournament.
Parkland 3, Pennridge 0 (25-21, 25-16, 25-21)
Pennridge suffered its first setback of the season on Friday, hanging tough but dropping a nonleague contest against the defending state champions in straight sets
Evan Jalosinski had 20 assists to go along with 6 digs and 2 blocks for the Rams. Bryce Ammon recorded 14 kills, 7 digs, and 3 blocks, Logan Jalosinski had 9 kills, 5 digs, and 4 aces, Chris Cullen had 3 kills and 3 blocks, Tyler Smith picked up 2 kills, 5 digs, and 4 assists, and Ethan Vo had 7 digs on the day.
Pennridge is 9-1 on the season (8-0 in American Conference) and will host North Penn at 6:30 pm Monday.
Whitehall 3, Quakertown 0
Despite 13 kills from Owen Reinford and 22 assists from Sean Gillin, Quakertown fell in straight sets to Whitehall in Friday’s nonleague match.
Reinford also had 1 block and 7 digs, Owen Williams had 6 kills and 12 digs, Miles Longacre recorded 4 kills and 2 blocks, Gillin added 1 kill, 1 block, and 15 digs, Quinn Costanzo had 12 digs, Alex Alfaro-Diaz chipped in with 1 kill, 2 blocks, and 5 digs, and Jack Harris had 2 blocks and 1 dig.
Quakertown falls to 1-9 overall (0-8 in American Conference play). The Panthers will host Central Bucks West at 6:30 pm Tuesday.
North Penn 3, Abington 2
The Knights battled until the last point for a hard-earned victory over the Ghosts in a grueling five-set non-league match.
Outside hitter Max Reilly led the team with 13 kills, one block kill and one ace. Connor Notte chipped in with 11 kills and three aces. Middles Shane McElroy and Caden Wine contributed seven kills and three blocks each. Jack Woodland added two blocks. Senior opposite Brian Rodoff had three kills and six digs. Aaron Birkmire dished 40 assists to fuel the team. Others contributing were Adam Lerner (3 aces) and Cullen McCann (3 kills, 1 aces).
North Penn (2-11, 1-8) will travel to Pennridge on Tuesday, and Abington (4-6, 3-4) will host Northeast in a non-league match Monday.
