On Thursday, Feb. 22, 2024, CB East senior Owen Lever was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at Lafayette College.
Owen Lever – Lafayette College (Swimming)
Major: Biomedical Engineering
Final list of colleges: Lafayette, TCNJ, Gettysburg, Fairfield, West Chester
Reasons for choosing Lafayette: “I just really love the team atmosphere, and the school itself prioritizes academics, which is very important to me. I just felt it was the right fit for me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level? “Up until freshman year and sophomore year fall, I played lacrosse, but about that same time, I realized how much dedication it takes to swim in college. So, I decided to quit lacrosse and focus on swimming all year round. I just really wanted to be able to help a team in my collegiate career as well. Both my parents were collegiate swimmers, and I definitely felt like I would really want to do that in college based on their experiences as well.”
Coach Roberta Lichter says: “Owen is a remarkable young man who has achieved great success in and out of the pool. He is a true student-athlete who represents the best of what our school and district as a whole has to offer. Owen is a talented swimmer, who has contributed to our CB East swim team, holding a current team record in the 400 free relay. He also continues to excel as a year-round swimmer for our district’s USA Swim Team known as the Central Bucks Swim Team led by Geoff Hawksworth. His GPA clearly shows a commitment to intellectual pursuits which has earned him a place among the top students in this class, demonstrating that true success encompasses both body and mind.
“Signing his letter to compete at the collegiate level is the culmination of years of hard work and dedication, but this is not merely an end – it is a new beginning, a testament to the transformative power of sports and education. As Owen embarks on the next chapter of his life, he carries with him the unwavering support and admiration of his family, friends, coaches and the entire school community. We have witnessed firsthand his competitive spirit, his enthusiasm and his determination to succeed. In the years to come, we have no doubt that he will continue to shine both in the pool and in the classroom. He will represent his university with honor and distinction, serving as a role model for his fellow student-athletes and inspiring future generations. It has been my pleasure watching Owen grow into a wonderful young man. We, your teammates and all of your coaches, wish you all the best in your future endeavors.
