On Wednesday, April 24, 2024, Souderton’s Charlie Arobone & Gisele Ramirez were recognized for committing to continue their wrestling careers at the collegiate level.
Charlie Arobone – University of Scranton (Wrestling)
Major: Finance
Final list of colleges: Scranton, Gettysburg, Messiah
Reasons for choosing Scranton: “I chose Scranton because I liked the campus, I liked the coaches, and I thought it was a really nice environment.”
Favorite Souderton sports memory: “My favorite memory was when I won the District 1 title and just seeing all my friends, family and coaches happy.”
Coach Billy McGinley says: “Charlie has been a full dedicated member of this program. He came to every offseason workout, every lifting session we had. He really bonded and blended the guys together and rallied through some challenging moments we faced during the seasons and really displayed himself as a great leader.”

Gisele Ramirez – York College (Wrestling)
Major: Mechanical Engineering
Final list of colleges: York, Alvernia
Reasons for choosing York: “I looked at a lot of other schools, but the only one I actually applied to was Alvernia, but I decided to go to York
because they have one of the best mechanical engineering programs for a very good tuition price, and their coaches actually reached out and talked to me a lot. They watched my tournaments, they gave me feedback on what I did, and they care a lot more about academics than sports.”
Favorite Souderton sports memory: “My favorite memory is my sophomore year when we beat North Penn for the first time in 11 years. I got my first boys’ varsity win, which was very amazing. The energy in the room was amazing. I got my first boys’ varsity win at my dad’s high school in his gym where he wrestled.”
Coach Chris Atkinson says: “We had Trinity (Monaghan) leave our program two years ago, and she was the first tried and true girl to come through, but we didn’t have a girls’ program at the time, so Gisele’s really the first one that came through the first unofficial and official years of us having a program. This was our year three, so she was able to partake in our girls’ team from her sophomore through her junior and now senior years. She was instrumental in helping us not only get that program started because she remembers what it was like in the dark ages when we were still wrestling in the boys’ program. She was able to be a contributor on the boys’ team, but she was instrumental in helping us get the girls’ program started and getting new blood and life into that program and sharing information. She’s had a lot of success there too. It was so hard for these girls coming through that time when girls wrestling was still trying to find its foothold, and they had to wrestle on boys’ teams. They’re getting hurt and getting beat up in matches, but that’s what they had available to them, so it made them tougher, but as soon as the door opened for girls’ wrestling, our girls that have come from that generation have flourished and have had a ton of success. Giselle had a great season. It didn’t quite end the way she wanted it to at states, but she has so much to be proud of in her career. Moving forward into York - I have a relationship with the coaches out of York. It’s a great program, and we’re really looking forward to watching her on the next level and seeing how she does out there.”
Coach Billy McGinley says: “Gisele has been a phenomenal part of our girls’ program, helping out and being a leader for them. Her big win against North Penn her sophomore year was awesome.”
