On Thursday, May 16, 2024, Hatboro-Horsham senior Spencer Alderson was recognized for committing to continue his swimming career at Ithaca College.
Spencer Alderson – Ithaca College (Swimming)
Major: Business
Reasons for choosing Ithaca: “Ithaca was basically my top school the whole way. The location of it – it was not right next to home but also not too far. I really liked the team right away, and the facilities were super nice. For a Division 3 school, their sports are extremely well funded, and that was a big incentive to go there. On the educational side, I’m looking into going into law school, and Ithaca allows you to take classes at Cornell, which is next door, so it seemed like a good fit overall.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in swimming at the collegiate level? “The end of my sophomore year going into junior year – in swimming and in most sports, junior year is when you have to make your biggest impression because colleges look to recruit after junior year, so I decided after my sophomore year when I started to get more competitive.”
Coach Kip Emig says: “Spencer has been swimming for me since he was six years old. In his high school career, he’s been a Suburban One champ, top eight in districts and top eight in the state in multiple events and multiple relays. He’s a true scholar. Academics are number one in his life, and I believe he’ll be really successful. His swimming has continued to get better. He recently had a lifetime best time, making the Futures cut which is something that is difficult to do.”
