SOL Cross Country Wrap: Upper Moreland/Souderton (9-18-24)

Information submitted by Upper Moreland & Souderton cross country.

Boys
WILLIAM TENNENT 19, UPPER MORELAND 45
Girls
WILLIAM TENNENT 15, UPPER MORELAND 50

The Upper Moreland Golden Bears hosted William Tennent in an SOL Cross Country league meet.  Tennent won both races, but despite the losses the Golden Bears appear to be heading in the right direction.
"Tennent has a very strong boys’ team, and they have solid depth on the girls’ side, so the outcome of the meet was never in question, but we are very happy with the way our kids are working and competing,” UM coach Doug Smith said. “We have three consecutive home meets, so the kids get to see how their work in practice is paying off.  Almost everyone ran better than last week. Freshman Aiden Finstad has dropped over four minutes from his time."

Head, Heart & Hands 5K
The Golden Bears also sent most of their team to the third annual Head Heart and Hands 5K in Willow Grove and they did exceptionally well.
"This is the third year of the local 5K benefit run, and UM had 12 or 13 entries,” UM coach Doug Smith said. “It is for a great cause and they put on a nice race.  We've done this race all three years they have had it, and Saturday was great weather and they had a good turnout.
“All of our kids that competed finished in the top 10 of their age group.  Chicken Saunders (top overall male finisher), Christian Feil (top male under 18), Melody McDonough (top overall female finisher) and Iyana Johnson (top female under 18) won overall and/or age group.  It was a great race. and the kids really competed on a tough course"

PENNRIDGE 25, SOUDERTON 30

Souderton boys’ cross country narrowly lost to Pennridge Wednesday by a score of 30-25. Junior Stephen Keller and senior Ben Wright both covered the 5-kilometer/3.1-mile course in 16:09, which is good for the fourth and fifth fastest times respectively from Souderton runners on our home course over the last 15 plus years!
