Pennsbury Finishes Second in the Rally in the Valley Championship
For the second time in as many weekends, the Falcons captured second place.
"Coach Knapp and I are extremely proud of both teams – varsity and JV,” coach Bob Burns said. “The resilience, growth, attitude, and competitive spirit were exemplary. Both teams faced some welcomed challenges."
At one point in the varsity pool play CB East was up 10-1. Pennsbury battled back to take the set and eventually went undefeated in pool play against tough competition.
"Those are the moments that integrate into a team's DNA and will pay dividends in the District 1 playoffs,” Burns said.
The JV team started pool play 0-2, but did not drop a set after that. They eventually lost to CR North in the quarterfinals in a spirited battle.
After receiving a 1st round bye as the number one seed, Pennsbury waited for their next opponent: North Penn.
"North Penn's coaching staff has done an amazing job,” Burns said. “They were significantly better and erased a 12-3 deficit to force us to three sets in the semifinals."
In the finals against Haveford, both teams exchanged blows to split sets. In the end, Haverford was able to win the deciding set and the championship.
"Haverford was very well-coached and balanced,” Burns said. “I am glad we got to face another tough District 1 opponent. Our ladies did an amazing job all tournament and opponents like Haverford are only going to make us better. I look forward to potentially seeing them again in the playoffs."
