SOUDERTON 45, COUNCIL ROCK NORTH 0

The Indians made the trek to Council Rock North on Saturday afternoon and wasted no time before taking care of business, opening up a 21-0 halftime lead on their way to the shutout win.
“Our defense played great,” Souderton coach Ed Gallagher said. “Our offense was inconsistent in the first half and cleaned things up a little bit on the first couple drives in the second half.
“Overall, it was an efficient win. We did what we needed to do.”
The Indians put 14 points on the scoreboard in the first quarter. Mike McCormick scored the game’s first touchdown, and then quarterback Ben Walsh connected with Elijah Hampton on a 30-yard touchdown reception. Walsh connected with Chase Johnson for an eight-yard touchdown, and a 23-yard field goal by Tannor Wiszneski sent Souderton into halftime with a commanding 24-0 lead.
In the second half, the Indians added touchdowns by Houston Marshall on a two-yard run and freshman Chase Hart. Quentin Williams scored the final TD of the game from 20 yards out.
“I’m happy for him,” Gallagher said. “He broke his leg last year and missed the entire season. He’s been battling injuries in the offseason, and he finally got back to health and then got a concussion a couple weeks ago, so he’s finally getting into some games, so I’m happy for him that he got a chance to get in the end zone.”
Souderton (6-3, 5-1 SOL) will travel to Upper Dublin for its league finale Friday. The Indians trail UD by one game in the conference standings.
“It’s human nature to start looking ahead,” Gallagher said. “As much as you can talk or coach speak, you’re definitely looking ahead when you’re playing a team that was mercy ruled by teams you mercy ruled. You know you’re probably winning the game, so it’s human nature to do that.
“Obviously, our focus is now fully on Upper Dublin, but it was definitely partially on them before. We’re looking forward to a great game Friday night.
“Bret Stover is a great coach and does a great job with those kids. I’m sure they’ll be fired up. It will be a great atmosphere . It’s what’s great about high school football.”
Council Rock North (1-8, 1-5) will face Council Rock South in Friday’s rivalry game.

WISSAHICKON 42, HATBORO-HORSHAM 20
The Trojans brought a welcome end to a three-game losing streak in conference play, opening up a 28-13 halftime lead on their way to the win.
“It was big for us,” Wissahickon coach Rory Graver said. “I’ve been proud of our guys. We’ve played some good football these last two weeks and haven’t gotten the results we were looking for, but we keep on getting better, so it was big. Especially with them being ahead of us in the playoff rankings. It was a big win for us, for sure.”
The game started out on a less than promising note.
“On our first play, we had a nice first-down completion, and we had a turnover on the second play,” Graver said. “We fumbled the ball, and our defense did a good job of getting the ball back to us, and we were able to go down and score.”
The Trojans never looked back on their way to the win.
For the Trojans, Xavier Johnson had five catches for 62 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown. Aidan Westcott had three catches for 59 and a touchdown reception in the second quarter. Q West had one catch for 33 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown opened the scoring for the Trojans in the first quarter. Quasir Sampson had 16 carries for 153 yards and a touchdown. His touchdown run came in the second quarter. Jason Murray had two rushes for 61 yards and a touchdown. His TD came on a fake punt in the second quarter. Quasir Sampson had 90-yard pick six in the fourth quarter.
“We were resilient throughout the game,” Graver said. “Hatboro was able to move the ball at times on us, but our defense came up with some big stands when they came inside the 25-yard line. We had a big turnover for a pick six when they were inside the 10-yard line. I think us being resilient throughout the game was important.”
Wissahickon (5-4, 1-3 SOL) will travel to Springfield Twp on Friday, and William Tennent (3-6, 1-3) will host Plymouth Whitemarsh in Friday’s regular season finale.

SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP 43, WILLIAM TENNENT 7
The Spartans were looking to bounce back in a big way after their disappointing 42-0 loss to Plymouth Whitemarsh a week earlier, and they took out any frustration they may have been feeling on the visiting Panthers, opening up a 36-0 halftime lead on their way to the mercy rule win.
“I think they got tired of me saying 42-0,” Springfield coach Chris Shelly said. “We clearly got smacked by PW, and our kids knew we could have played better in a lot of different ways. I didn’t have to do much except mention that score.
“We were also playing on our homecoming, and we knew coming in that Tennent was a good team and had beaten Wiss. We want to get a home game in districts. We know we’re kind of locked in, but we want to keep on winning. We don’t want to back into the playoffs. We challenged our guys, absolutely, and they responded. It was nice to get our subs in in the second half.”
CJ Johnson put the Spartans on the board with a 10-yard touchdown run, and then quarterback Jack McGuckin had a 30-yard run for a touchdown and a 14-0 lead after one quarter.
A Tennent snap out of the back of the end zone for a safety put the Spartans on top 16-0, and then Johnson scored on a 21-yard run to give the Spartans a 23-0 lead. McGuckin picked up his second touchdown of the night on a 15-yard run, giving the Spartans, who missed the extra point, a 29-0 advantage. McGuckin scored on a 26-yard run for his third TD of the game that put the Spartans on top 36-0 at the intermission.
In the third quarter, Zymir Small had a six-yard touchdown run to give the Spartans a 43-0 lead. The Panthers broke up the Spartans’ shutout bid with a touchdown in the fourth quarter.
McGuickin led the Spartans with 10 carries for 145 yards and three touchdowns. The senior quarterback was 6-for-9 passing the ball for 94 yards. Johnson had 12 carries for 87 yards and two touchdowns.
For the game, the Spartans had 26 carries for 256 yards and six touchdowns.
On the defensive side of the football, Mike Capoferri came up with a highlight reel interception.
“He had a phenomenal pick,” Shelly said. “He dove and caught it.
“Nick Ebner had two sacks. We knew coming in Tennent had some pretty good athletes skill-wise, so we wanted to get after the quarterback. I think we did, and we effectively shut them down that way. That was nice to see. Our defense took it to heart that it was 42-0.”
Springfield Twp (7-2, 3-1 SOL) will host Wissahickon in Friday’s regular season finale.
“I’m breaking down Wiss now,” Shelly said. “They’re a challenge in a lot of different ways. They definitely can put up points. They’re playing with everybody, and they had a nice win against Hatboro-Horsham.
“Their record doesn’t indicate how good a football team they are, but we know how good they are.”
William Tennent (3-6, 1-3) will close out its season with a home game against Plymouth Whitemarsh Friday.
