CB West Foursome to Play Collegiate Soccer

On Thursday, Nov. 12, 2024, Central Bucks West seniors Eva Wierzbowski, Cece Funseth, Camryn Nocito & Rian Detweiler were recognized for committing to compete in soccer at the collegiate level.

Rian Detweiler – Ithaca College (Soccer)
Major:
Educational Studies
Final list of colleges: Ithaca, Catholic University, Ursinus, Susquehanna
Reasons for choosing Ithaca: The coaches were definitely a big part of it, and I just loved the town. To me, Ithaca was the perfect town. The size of the school is perfect, and they had my major.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “It came about freshman year when I started thinking about whether I wanted to play or not. I decided I didn’t want it to be my whole college career, so I wanted to go D3.”
Coach Bree Benedict says: “Rian Detweiler is a fantastic wide player that serves a great ball across or shot from distance. She was really clinical in front of net, and we expect her to continue her scoring ways at Ithaca College in the fall.”
About Rian:
Favorite food:
Chick-Fil-A breakfast
Favorite TV show: Modern Family
Favorite movie: Good Will Hunting
Favorite artist: The Beatles

Cece Funseth – Sienna College (Soccer)
Major:
Communications/Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges: Sienna, Ithaca, Scranton
Reasons for choosing Sienna: “I really like the coaching style because it just seems like a good environment with the team. They’ve been on the top of my list since sophomore year. They were one of the first schools I emailed and one of the first ID clinics I went to.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I started out at a club called Buckingham United and then I switched to Philadelphia Ukrainian Nationals over COVID because the coach was telling me that it was going to be a good gateway to college soccer.  With the Ukies, I took every advantage I could.”
Coach Bree Benedict says: “Cece Funseth was an outstanding defender in her time at West, and we can’t wait to see her take that skillset to Siena College to play Division 1 soccer. She’s a vocal leader on the field with an ability to play with both feet.”
About Cece:
Favorite food:
Chipotle
Favorite movie: Tangled
Favorite music: Country

Camryn Nocito – Ursinus College (Soccer)
Major:
Business
Final list of colleges: Ursinus, VMI, The Citadel, Tampa, Coastal Carolina.
Reasons for choosing Ursinus: “I was looking at architecture/interior design, but I have to create my own route for that. I was looking to go into the military for a while, so it slowed down my process with other universities.
“I absolutely love the location of Ursinus, and I like how it’s far enough away from home, but it’s close enough to where my parents and siblings can come and support me in my games. It’s also D3, so I’m assuming I have a really good chance of starting my first year as I want to play since it’s my last four years.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I’ve played soccer my whole life, and I knew I wanted it to be part of my future. So, obviously, going into high school, it was definitely when coaches started coming out, and I knew I wanted to keep playing as long as I can because I’m not going professional. So, my last four years, I wanted to play.”
Coach Bree Benedict says: “Cam Nocito is a double threat goalkeeper and goal scorer! Ursinus is lucky to be getting a keeper with such an advanced footwork capability. She’s an aggressive goalkeeper with clean handling and technique. Despite a tough injury this year, her impact as a fantastic teammate and captain will be missed. “
About Camryn:
Favorite food:
Chick-Fil-A 8-piece nuggets
Favorite movie: Matilda
Favorite song: “Revival” by Zach Bryan

Eva Wierzbowski – San Diego State (Soccer)
Major:
Exercise Science
Final list of colleges: San Diego State, NJIT
Reasons for choosing San Diego State:
I visited NJIT, and I loved the coaches there. They offered me a full ride, and I was definitely considering.
“My cousin goes to SDSU, and my dad’s uncle lives 20 minutes away from SDSU, so I had family there already. They can come to my games, and my family reassured me that they were okay that I was that far away because they knew that it’s somewhere I would love to be.
“I already was in San Diego before because I had a club national playoffs there, so I got to spend time there a couple of years ago, and I loved it. I just love the vibes there. Everyone is so much more peaceful and calm, and the weather is perfect. And the campus is beautiful.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in soccer at the collegiate level? “I started at Ukrainian Nationals until seventh grade when I switched over to the Players Development Academy in New Jersey because they had a pathway to college, and I knew that would be the best way I could have gotten looks. My dad played soccer in college, and even as a little kid, I’ve always wanted to play in college.”
Coach Bree Benedict says: “Eva Wierzbowski is an absolute gamer with an elite ability to keep team possession and go forward quickly. She’s a quick thinker in small spaces but is capable of switching play with one touch. Her attitude and defensive work rate make her ready for the difficult play in the Mountain West. We can’t wait to see her compete at one of the highest levels in the country.”
