Wissahickon 16, Abington 1 (3 innings)
Wissahickon took care of business early in this one, scoring 16 runs in three innings to mercy-rule Abington to take the season series against the Galloping Ghosts on Friday.
Included in the 16 runs was a huge 12-run third inning, which included seven hits to go along with six walks and five hit by pitches.
By the Numbers: Wissahickon: Mark Selverian (2-for-2, double, triple, 2 RBIs, 2 runs), Johnnie Klinger (1-for-2, 2 RBIs), Chase Neumeister (1-for-2, 2 RBIs), Adam Hajdak (WP, 3 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K)
Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd: Tied at 1, the Trojans scored three times. Mark Selverian, who tripled in the first inning, followed that up with a two-run double to make it 3-1. Josh Stonsifer followed that up with a sac fly to score a run.
Wissahickon coach Andy Noga:  “This was a good series win for us. Coming back after a tough opening series against our crosstown rivals, UD, we needed a series win and to get back to playing Wissahickon baseball. After a rough first game and rough first four innings on Tuesday, we did just that.
“We came out from the first pitch today ready to play, Adam Hajdak went right after their hitters and got us off the field quickly, and then offensively we went to work.
“Mark Selverian continues to mash for us. He had a double and a triple today that both could have been home runs on a warmer day. Chase Carpenter has continued to step up and offer us a jolt in the middle of our lineup. As the only left-handed bat we have, we’ve really leaned on him to balance out things in the middle of the order, and he continues to put together good at-bats and find barrels for us in big spots.
“We did it all today; we bunted well, ran the bases well, got hit by five pitches, walked a bunch, and good situational hitting with runners on allowed us to jump all over multiple arms that we saw today. We preach to our guys that good things happen when you put pressure on the defense, and that played out today in multiple occasions where our aggressive base running led to errors that allowed more runs to score.
“We know that it’s a game-to-game league in the SOL, and we certainly don’t expect an outcome like this when we take on a strong Hatboro-Horsham team next week, but a game like this can really be a tone setter and a feel-good reset, and I’m glad our guys got the chance to win the series in such a manner.”
Up next: Wissahickon (5-5, 2-4 SOL) will travel to Hatboro-Horsham Tuesday, and Abington (1-3) is scheduled to travel to Quakertown on Saturday (10 am)
Abington 010 - 1 2 3
Wissahickon 13 (12) - 16 7 1

Hatboro-Horsham 13, Quakertown 7
An 11-run fifth inning was the jolt Hatboro-Horsham needed on Thursday, as the Hatters salvaged the third of three games against Quakertown with a 13-7 win.
H-H had 13 runs on 10 hits and five walks.
By the Numbers: H-H: Ryan Thomas (2-for-4, 3 RBIs),  Dom Rapino (2-for-4), Cole Incudine (2-for-5, 2 runs, 1 RBI), Chase Canney (double, 2 RBIs), Shane Mills (WP, 5 IP, 4 H, 3 ER, 5 BB, 4 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 5th: Tied at 2, H-H scored 11 times to take control, with eight hits and three walks. Ryan Thomas’ two-run single made it a 4-2 game, followed by Chase Canney’s two-run double one batter later.
H-H coach Bill DeBoer: “Shane Mills tossed an excellent game in spite of not having his best stuff.  (It was a) 2-2 game after 4, and the Hatters put up 11 in fifth.  Not sure I've seen more infield hits in an inning … with a soft field our guys put the ball in play and hustled everything out.
“We had multiple hits from Incudine (2), Thomas (2) and Rapino (2) and a huge 2-RBI double from Canney.
“Carl Salvato was able to get the final six outs to save it for Mills.
Up next: Hatboro-Horsham (4-6, 3-3 SOL) will host Wissahickon on Tuesday, and Quakertown (4-2, 3-1) will host Souderton on Tuesday in a non-league game.

Upper Moreland 14, Cheltenham 3 (5 innings)
Eight runs in the second inning were more than enough for heavy-hitting Upper Moreland, which completed the three-game sweep of Cheltenham with the mercy-rule shortened victory on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Bears outscored the Panthers 30-10 over three games, including 27 runs in the last two games.
By the Numbers: UM: Zach O’Connor (3-for-3, 2 RBIs, 1 run), Chase Moore (2-for-3, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Luke Sword (2 RBIs), Darsney (2 RBIs), Cannon Campbell (WP, 3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 2 BB, 4 K)
Key Inning: Bottom of the 2nd: Tied at 1, the first eight batters reached base for the Bears in the inning. They had four singles and five walks. Chase Moore, Luke Sword, and Zach O’Connor had RBI singles as UM blew it open and went up 9-1.
UM coach Jim Fasano: “Zach O’Connor started his first varsity game yesterday and collected two hits. Today he had three. I suppose when we resume play, we should expect four, five and six-hit games. So, I’m definitely looking forward to that and am sure he is too. Great kid, great family. I coached his older brother, Nate, my first season here at UM and Nate was a dude for us that year.
“Freshman Cannon Campbell is a machine out there, a 6-4 lefty who shows no emotion and gave us three good innings today. Pretty amazing to come from being a varsity contributor on the state semifinal basketball team to playing an integral role on the baseball squad with no break or ramp-up time between seasons.
“Big congrats to Michael Harter on his first varsity hit. The kid has done nothing but rake on JV the last two years and is in a tough situation with (Pat) ‘Beef’ Kilgus in front of him at first base.  Mike is a great teammate and human being, he is going to be one heck of a success in his adult life.
“Good win for our guys. They’re great kids and enjoy each other’s company. We have a long way to go to get where we want to be, but it is definitely about the journey and not the destination.  I think our kids’ confidence is continuing to grow. We have a deep lineup with consistent quality at bats which goes a long way towards winning games.”
Up next: Cheltenham (1-5, 0-5 SOL) is off until Tuesday, April 22, when the Panthers will host William Tennent, and Upper Moreland (7-3, 6-0) will travel to Lower Moreland on Monday, April 21.

Springfield Twp 6, Lower Moreland 4
Springfield improved to 6-1 on the season and completed an impressive three-game sweep over Lower Moreland with the 6-4 win on Thursday.
The Spartans rallied with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pull out the win.
By the Numbers: Springfield: Bob Hartman (3-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Mike Capoferri (2-for-2, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Max May (WP, 7 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 2 BB, 3 K).
LM: James Cronin (double, 2 RBIs)
Key Inning:  Bottom of the 6th: Trailing 4-3, Jon Matthews got things started for Springfield with a single, was bunted to second and then Matt Caruso singled to put runners on first and third. With two out, Bob Hartman had the biggest hit of the game, a double to left to score the tying and winning runs.
Springfield coach Rob Bond: “We had a solid pitching performance from Max May as well as solid defense.  Max always wants the ball, he really likes to compete.  Max had a little trouble in the third, but after that he was solid as he always is.
“Senior Bobby Hartman has been on a tear lately, and he went 3-4 and drove in the winning run in the sixth.  Junior Mike Capoferri had another big day at the plate going 2-for-2.
“The team is really starting to put things together and playing up to their capabilities which is really a good sign.
“The new series format is interesting for sure.  Tough to play a team three times in a week, but the team is up for the challenge.”
Up next: Springfield (6-1, 5-0 SOL) will travel to Cheltenham Monday (12 noon), and Lower Moreland (3-8, 1-5) will host Upper Moreland on Monday, April 21.
Lower Moreland 003 010 0 - 4 6 3
Springfield 010 203 x - 6 9 1

William Tennent 4, New Hope-Solebury 1 (11 innings)
Tennent wrapped up a big win with its third straight over New Hope in dramatic fashion, as the Panthers used four different pitchers and outlasted the Lions in extra innings on Thursday.
It was an impressive overall day pitching for both teams, as neither team scored a run for the first eight innings. Then, after Tennent scored in the top of the eighth, New Hope answered with one in their half of the inning to send the game to the 10th and eventually the 11th.
By the Numbers: WT: Cody Devor (WP, 3 IP, 5 H, 0 ER, 0 BB, 1 K), Mike Woehr (3 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K; 1-for-5, 2 RBIs), JD Dingas (3 2/3 IP, 1 H, 2 BB, 3 K), Zach Chubb (1 IP, 1 H, 1 BB, 3 K); Jordan Lawson (2-for-5)
New Hope: Joel Carmenini (4-for-5, 3 SBs), John Whelan (7 IP, 2 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 3 K)
Key Inning: Top of the 11th: Jordan Lawson led off with a single and then an error on a bunt put runners on first and second. Cody Devor then hit a sac fly to put Tennent in front, and Mike Woehr and Brandon Alburger each added RBI singles.
Tennent coach Lucas Denczi: “When I said yesterday it was going to take a complete effort to finish the series, I did not foresee this great of a battle. Credit goes to every single guy on the team, 1 through 16. Battling the extreme cold again, they made no excuses. From the starters, to pinch hitters and baserunning, it was a complete effort.
“Zach Chubb, our starting pitcher, was forced to leave the game early due to injury, which meant we had to go to the bullpen early. In the third game in three days, that usually spells trouble. However, our guys answered the call. JD Dingas, Mike Woehr, and Cody Devor each threw three innings in relief and ultimately got us the win.
“Offensively, we were once again kept off balance by a strong New Hope starter. It wasn’t until the 11th that we were able to string together a series of quality at-bats and key base hits to push a few runs across. Credit goes to the heart of our lineup that came through in some big spots.
Up next: William Tennent (4-6, 3-3 SOL) is off until Tuesday, April 22, when the Panthers will host Cheltenham, and New Hope-Solebury (5-4, 2-4) is off until Tuesday, April 22, when the Lions will host Springfield Twp.

Bensalem 6, Harry S. Truman 1
Bensalem won its third straight over Truman and its fifth consecutive game overall, behind the pitching of Haydn Sorensen on Thursday.
In the series sweep, the Owls outscored the Tigers 22-8, and their pitchers allowed just two runs in the final two games.
By the Numbers: Bensalem: Haydn Sorensen (WP, 6 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 5 K), Pete Pasquarella (3-for-4, 2 RBIs), Joe Dougherty (2-for-3, double), Jimmy McGinty (2-for-3, 2 RBIs), Mikey Kramer (2-for-4, triple, 1 RBI).

Key Inning: Top of the 1st: The Owls struck first and never trailed, scoring two in the first, with both runs scoring on a two-out single by Pete Pasquarella.
Bensalem coach Harry Daut, Jr.: “Great win for us today. Haydn Sorensen pitched very well, Joe Dougherty, Mike Kramer and Pete Pasquarella all had multiple hits that drove in runs.”
Up next: Bensalem (8-3, 5-3 SOL) will host William Tennent on Monday, and Harry S Truman (1-7, 0-6) will host Bristol in a non-league game Wednesday.

Council Rock North 7, Neshaminy 6
CR North was coming off back-to-back losses to Neshaminy in which it allowed nine and 14 runs, and the Indians trailed the third game of the series Thursday going into the seventh.
But a two-run rally in the seventh reversed CR North’s fortunes as it took the third game of the series.
By the Numbers: CR North: Will Seifer (3-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Noah Furman (3-for-4, 1 RBI), Peyton Shaw (2-for-4), Will Godonis (WP, 3 ⅔ IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).
Neshaminy: Chase Bonner (2-for-3, 2 runs), Noah Wallace (2-for-4).
Key Inning: Top of the 7th: After a pair of groundouts to start the inning, Will Cabo reached on a walk, and Noah Furman picked up his third hit of the day, to put runners on first and second. Will Seifer then had the hit the game to win it, a double to right field to score both runners.
CR North coach Matt Schram: “The three-game series exposes a lot, and we were up against a team who is just tough up and down the lineup.  We had to fight for every run, and Will Godonis was clutch in 3-plus innings of relief.
“Will Seiler had a huge hit in the top of the seventh, but the inning doesn’t get extended if it wasn’t for a phenomenal at-bat by Will Cabo drawing a 2-out walk.  The inning also extended with Noah Furman’s third hit of the game, which permitted Seiler to come up with the double.
“All in all, opening with Pennsbury and then facing Neshaminy, I am proud of the fight in our team today.”
Up next: Council Rock North (3-5, 2-4 SOL) will host Council Rock South on Monday, April 21, and Neshaminy (6-4, 6-2) will host Archbishop Ryan in a non-league game on Friday, April 25.
CR North 200 210 2 - 7 12 1
Neshaminy 211 110 0 - 6 9 5

Pennsbury 2, Council Rock South 0
Pierce Perry and Quinton Shaffer were dealing on the mound for Pennsbury, which bounced back from a tough loss to win the rubber match and take the season series against CR South.
Perry allowed just three hits over 6 1/3 innings pitched, walking two and striking out 10, before being relieved after 97 pitches in the seventh. Shaffer got the final two outs for the save.
By the Numbers: Pennsbury: Ben Seidler (2-for-3, triple, RBI), Dylan Hirsh (2-for-3), Crane (2-for-3), Owen Hawkes (2-for-3), Pierce Perry (WP, 6 1/3 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 10 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 6th: Pennbury broke a scoreless tie with a run in the sixth. Ben Seidler led off the inning with a triple to right, and scored as the next batter, Owen Hawkes, singled to center.
Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci: “Yesterday, we faced (CR South ace Reed) Curtier and he was phenomenal. It didn’t help that we only had three hits, but we ran ourselves out of a couple of innings. And you know when you’re facing Curtier it’s going to be tough and he did great.
“Today, we went with Pierce Perry, a lefty.  We knew they had a bunch of lefty hitters in a row, and (Perry) pitched well in our loss to CR North last week. It was kind of the spark we needed.  We hit a lot - we had 10 hits - but we had nine strikeouts.  Pierce kept us in it.”
--Offensively: “The first inning we left two guys on. The next inning, we had the bases loaded and didn’t score. In the third, we left two guys on. That’s seven guys left on base the first three innings. It just kept going that way. We were doing the right things but just couldn’t push runs across.  We had too many Ks and popups.
“We made some lineup changes, and senior Ben Seidler and sophomore Owen Hawkes both had big hits for us.”
Up next: Pennsbury (6-2-1, 4-2 SOL) will host Holy Ghost in a non-league game on Tuesday, and Council Rock South (5-5, 3-3) is off until Monday, April 21, when the Golden Hawks will host Council Rock North.
Pennsbury 000 001 1 - 2 10 0
CR South 000 000 0 - 0 3 1

Central Bucks East 4, Souderton 2
With five straight losses to start the division schedule, including a devastating 14-13 game decided by a walk-off home run 24 hours earlier to Souderton, CB East picked up a big one on Thursday, salvaging the three-game series with the Indians on the road.
The Patriots won the game with two runs in the top of the seventh  and pitcher Mike Scafidi did the rest to wrap up the complete-game victory.
By the Numbers:  CB East: Mike Scafidi (WP, 7 IP, 3 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K), Mason Cruz (2-for-4, double, 2 RBIs), Sean Hill (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Top of the 7th: CB East loaded the bases with one out, as Jack Thompson walked and Sean Hill and Nick Mutchler both singled. Mason Cruz followed with a two-run single to right and that proved to be the game winner.
CB East coach Kyle Dennis:  “Our guys are confident. They should be confident. They work really hard. We’ve been battling through some injuries, trying to figure out the lineup. There’s a lot. To get thrown into three games a week, guys are nicked up and that can hurt you.
“We’ve been really close in a couple of games. One big hit away, one shutdown inning away. We’ve played pretty good baseball. We had a chance to win one game against North Penn. Yesterday, we had a shot to beat Souderton but fell apart late. We’ve been playing pretty good baseball.”
--On the mound: “Today, we were able to get a great performance from Mike Scafidi. He was awesome, threw a complete game and pitched out of adversity. He only walked two guys. If we defend the way we can, we’re going to be all right.”
Up next: Central Bucks East (4-5, 1-5 SOL) will travel to Plymouth Whitemarsh for a non-league game Wednesday, and Souderton (6-2-1, 5-1) will travel to Quakertown for a non-league game Tuesday.
CB East 200 000 2 - 4 7 2
Souderton 000 200 0 - 2 3 0

Central Bucks South 7, North Penn 5
CB South snapped a three-game losing streak Thursday and also knocked North Penn from the ranks of the unbeaten with the 7-5 win.
In its previous three losses - including 3-1 to North Penn Wednesday - the Titans lost a one-run game and a pair of two-run games, and their pitchers allowed just eight runs in that stretch.
Luke Hillegass went the distance to pick up the win Thursday.
“It was an important day for our group, to even out the series after a tough, hard-fought game yesterday,” said Titans coach Kevin Bray. “It feels good.  All the credit goes to our guys. They’re a resilient group. They did what we thought they were capable of doing. It was a great team win.”
By the Numbers: CB South:  Dallon Smith (2-for-3, double, 2 RBIs), Owen Pinkerton (2-for-3, double, 2 RBIs), Jake Madden (2-for-3, double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Brett Barrett (2-for-4, double); Luke Hillegass (WP, 7 IP, 4 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 7 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 5th: Leading 3-2, CB South scored four times to take command. Jake Ruddell led off with a single and was bunted to second. Jake Yang then had an RBI single. Jake Madden and Owen Pinkerton also had RBI singles in the inning.
CB South coach Kevin Bray: “Runs have been at a premium early on for us. Facing really good pitchers day in, day out in this division, it’s tough. We feel comfortable with our guys, and they proved they can do that today with seven runs. Guys came up with runners in scoring position, and we were able to cash in those chances today.”
On the Mound: “Luke Hillegass threw a complete game for us. He’s a stud. Luke did his job. Any time we have him on the mound, we feel pretty good about our chances. He controlled the strike zone and pitched to contact.”
Up next: Central Bucks South (4-4, 2-4 SOL) will host North Penn (9-1, 4-1) Monday for the third game of their three-game series,
CB South 000 340 0 - 7 10 4
North Penn 000 230 0 - 5 4 1

Pennridge 10, Central Bucks West 2
With six extra base hits and two pitchers teaming up for a four-hitter, Pennridge took the rubber match and claimed the three-game series with CB West with a convincing 10-2 victory on the road Thursday.
Andrew Rendler and Zach Swanson both had home runs for the Rams.
By the Numbers: Pennridge: Zach Swanson (2-for-3, HR, double, 3 RBIs), Andrew Rendler (2-for-4, HR, 2 RBIs,2 runs), Antonio Lillo (2-for-3, 2 runs), Tim Croyle (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Connor Murray (2-for-4, 2 doubles), Ascher Hamburg (WP, 4 1/3 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 0 BB, 1 K/2-for-4, 2 doubles, 1 RBI),
Key Inning: Top of the 1st: Connor Murray hit a one-out double, and scored two batters later on an RBI double by Ascher Hamburg. Zach Swanson followed with a two-run home run to make it 3-0.
Pennridge coach Danny Long: “We had competitive at bats up and down the lineup today, including two big swings from Zach Swanson and Andrew Rendler.
“Our pitching staff walked two hitters the entire series, which is something we challenged them with this week, and they responded with a ton of strikes. Ascher Hamburg was extremely efficient and impressive on the mound today, throwing only 47 pitches in 4.1 innings.”
Up next: Pennridge (5-4, 2-4 SOL) will host Quakertown for its Senior Night game on Wednesday, and Central Bucks West (6-3, 3-3) will host Oley Valley in a non-league game Thursday.
