SOL Baseball Wrap (5-6-25)

Check out the recaps for SOL baseball teams in action Tuesday.

SOL Patriot Division

Pennsbury 1, Neshaminy 0
First place is on the line between these two rivals this week, and Game 1 lived up to all the billing with a classic pitchers’ duel between Pennsbury’s Keller Bradley and Neshaminy Jared Kligerman. One run in the bottom of the third held up as the Falcons drew first blood with the 1-0 win.
Neither team committed an error in the game.
Bradley pitched six shutout innings, allowing just three hits and three walks, while striking out eight. Quinton Shaffer picked up the save with a scoreless seventh inning.
“Obviously, I don’t want to win 1-0 - I’d like it to be 10-0, but it’s playoff baseball,” said Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci. “Not to use too much hyperbole, but it’s the biggest game of their lives every game. We had to win today, we have to win tomorrow. I expect there to be a lot of intensity tomorrow. (Neshaminy) is playing for a chance to extend it for another game. We want to close the door.
“Obviously, it helps for playoff seeding, but we want to bring home this league title.”
By the Numbers: Pennsbury: Carlton Crane (1 RBI), Pierce Perry (2-for-3), Keller Bradley (WP, 6 IP, 3 H, 0 ER, 3 BB, 8 K), Quinton Shaffer (Save, 1 IP, 1 H, 0 ER, 2 K).
Neshaminy: Jared Kligerman (LP, 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 0 BB, 3 K)
Key Inning: Bottom of the 3rd: Ben Seidler led off with a single, and two batters later Owen Hawkes singled to put runners on first and second with one out. After a second out, Carlton Crane roped a single to center to score what would be the only run of the game.
Pennsbury coach Joe Pesci:  “I want to say how impressive Kligerman was for Neshaminy. He threw 63 pitches in six innings. In the first two innings, he had maybe eight pitches, maybe less.
“It’s crazy, Keller was at 40 pitches through two innings. He was getting outs but just going deep in counts. Kligerman had two, three-pitch outs. It was interesting to see.
“They threatened early, but Keller got out of it, and he got stronger as the game went on.  Not to sound weird, but sometimes he tries to be too much of a pitcher. I tell him, ‘You can throw, 94, 95. You can get ahead like that.’ He tries to get too finicky and dabbles here or there. Just go attack.”
–Offensively: “We were looking at the stats yesterday, and we were striking out just under six times a game, and at inopportune times. We need productive outs, competitive at bats. Today, we struck out three times and we put the ball in play. (Kligerman) didn’t walk anybody, he hit Dylan Hirsh, but we put the ball in play. We had six hits and went up with better mindsets. We want those guys to be aggressive on good pitches.
“But it was hard to extend innings. (In the third), once we got guys on first and second, Carlton Crane came up with a two-out RBI, which is massive.”
Up Next: Pennsbury (13-3-1, 10-3 SOL) is at Neshaminy (10-5, 9-3) Wednesday for Game 2 of the series.

Preston Martin allowed just one unearned run over 6 2/3 innings before being pulled after hitting the 100-pitch limit.
“Today was Preston Martin’s day,” said Indians’ coach Matt Schram. “Preston threw six innings and did a masterful job on the mound. He was in control, working efficiently and effectively. “Preston helped himself at the plate, going 2-for-3 and scoring for his cause.”

Ryan Hickey had a grand slam, and Johnny Mendola also had a home run for the Golden Hawks.
“Really nice to get back in the win column after a tough four-game skid,” said CR South coach Greg Paprocki. “Jack Albright did a great job on the mound for us today - giving us a strong 6.1 innings pitched. He’s been a true leader for us taking the ball whenever asked and giving our guys a shot to win the game. I am very happy with the way he’s competed this year. He deserves all the success that is having.”
By the Numbers: CR North: Johnny Mendola (2-for-2, HR, 2 RBIs, 3 runs), Billy O’Neill (2-for-4, 2 doubles), Drew Nemeth (2-for-4, 3 runs), Zak Abt (2-for-4, 1 RBI), Ryan Hickey (1 HR, 4 RBIs), Reed Curtier (2  RBIs), Jack Albright (WP, 6 1/3 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 K).

SOL Colonial Division

Central Bucks West 6, Souderton 2
Clinging to a spot on the bubble of the District One playoff field, CB West needed to find a way to even its three-game set with Souderton, and did so on Tuesday, knocking off the Indians 6-2, 24 hours after a loss in Game 1 of the series.
The Bucks scored two runs in the fourth to take the lead and added one  in the fifth and sixth innings.

“Small ball and good base running got us a big inning going.
“Jack Hogenauer did a great job coming in and closing the door. They managed to string a couple hits together in the last inning, and he stayed composed and stayed in the strike zone.”
Up Next: After an off day, CB West (11-7, 7-7 SOL) hosts Souderton (9-7, 8-6) in the rubber match between the two teams on Thursday.
CB West 000 231 0 - 6 8 1

SOL Freedom Division

Springfield Twp 7, William Tennent 3
Springfield’s offense came alive in the fourth, and the Spartans pulled away for the 7-3 win over Tennent on Tuesday, clinching at least a share of the Freedom Division title with one game remaining against the Panthers on Thursday.
Eight different players had hits, led by Bob Hartman, who went 3-for-4.  He also was the winning pitcher, allowing three earned runs over 6 2/3 innings pitched.
“We got another great outing from our starting pitcher, Bobby Hartman,” said Springfield coach Rob Bond. “He really has been a workhorse for us this year. It’s great seeing him having a great senior year … Due to pitch count, he couldn’t finish, so we went with Jake Gibson to finish the game. Jake has been a surprise for us on the mound this year. I feel great for him.”
By the Numbers: Springfield: Bob Hartman (3-for-4, 1 RBI, WP, 6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 3 ER, 4 BB, 4 K), Nolan Kidwell (2-for-4, 2 runs), Jon Matthews (2-for-3), Owen Hastings (1 double, 2 RBIs), Anderson Kerper (2 RBIs).

Key Inning: Top of the 4th: Chris Cahill singled to lead off the inning, and a one-out single by Nolan Kidwell put runners on the corners. A Bob Hartman single scored one, Anderson Kerper scored another with an RBI single, and then a bases-loaded walk to Mike Capoferri made it 3-0.
Springfield coach Rob Bond: “Offensively, the team got two RBIs from Owen Hastings and Anderson Kerper. They both came up clutch with men in scoring position.”
-Freedom Division title: “At the beginning of the year, the seniors set a goal to win the league. They have been driven to achieve that goal. I know they are happy to share the title, but I also know they would like to finish on top. This doesn’t happen that often for Springfield, so achieving that goal would be huge for them.”
Up next: Thursday, Springfield (15-3, 13-1 SOL) looks to clinch the league title outright at home against Tennent (6-13, 5-9).
Springfield 000 304 0 - 7 12 1
Tennent 000 002 1 - 3 7 2

Upper Moreland 5, New Hope-Solebury 2
On Senior Night at Masons Mill Park, Upper Moreland won it in dramatic style, breaking a 2-2 tie with three runs in the bottom of the sixth for the 5-2 win over visiting New Hope on Tuesday night.
“Just a good win for us overall,” UM coach Jim Fasano said. “A total team victory. We were down 2-0 and came back in the face of adversity, to a team we’ve lost to on Senior Night in recent years.
“Senior Night is such a great event for our kids and community. And a huge thank you to our moms for organizing this event, we have an amazing group of people here in Upper Moreland. I am fortunate to have a great AD in Sean Feeley and a fabulous group of seniors: Mason Loew, Ethan Molt, Dilan Gruenbaum, Beef Kilgus, Colson Campbell, and Max Abbosh.”
By the Numbers: UM: Luke Sword (2-for-3, 1 double, 2 RBIs),  Max Abbosh (2-for-3), Cannon Campbell (WP, 6 IP, 6 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K), Ethan Molt (Save, 1 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 1 K).
NH-S: Lucas Kevorkian (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Joe Rickard (2-for-3, 1 RBI).
Key Inning: Bottom of the 6th: Tied at 2, Luke Sword and Max Abbosh hit back-to-back singles.  One run scored on an error, and another on a passed ball. Jackson Townsend later singled to score a run to make it a 5-2 game.
Upper Moreland coach Jim Fasano:

--Abbosh recognized: “So happy for captain Max Abbosh to get two hits and hit three balls hard tonight. He was awarded our Rob Meehl Memorial Trophy tonight in recognition of who he is as a human being, and I award him the Jim Fasano trophy for hitting three balls hard and being a great teammate and person, which is way more important than hard contact.
--Getting it done on the mound: “Ethan ‘Milk’ Molt came in to close out the game today. He got a double play groundball to end the game and recorded the three-out save. Just happy for the kid who wore sparkling cleats which fit his sparkling personality quite well. Heck of a slider that kid throws, too!
“Cannon Campbell, the freshman, threw six outstanding innings as per usual for us. If I could be re-incarnated, I’d come back as a 6’4 lefty (like Canny) with the world at my feet. Canny, or PBells, as the kids call him, throws multiple pitches for strikes and that is a recipe for winning baseball at literally every single level it’s played.”
Up Next:  The teams will play Game 2 of the series on Thursday as Upper Moreland (12-5, 11-2 SOL) is at New Hope (6-10, 3-10).
New Hope 101 000 0 - 2 6 3
Upper Moreland 002 003 x - 5 6 2

Cheltenham 2, Lower Moreland 1
Cheltenham’s potent offensive prowess of the last two weeks took a bit of a break on Tuesday, but it worked out okay for the Panthers as they rode the pitching of Nate Leary, who threw a complete-game four-hitter. They scored twice late for the 2-1 win over Lower Moreland.
Eamon Ivory tied it with an RBI single in the sixth, and then the game-winner scored in the seventh as Tim Dugan stole home with two outs.
Leary, who allowed just an unearned run in the first, set the Lions down in the bottom of the seventh to close it out.
“Yeah, we were able to pull a tough game out,” said Panthers coach Lukas Nakkula. “Nate Leary was great for us and threw a complete game to really help us get the win on a day where we weren't able to put hits together.”
By the Numbers: Cheltenham: Sean Trainor (2-for-3, double), Eamon Ivory (1 RBI), Nate Leary (WP, 7 IP, 4 H, 0 ER, 2 BB, 5 K).
LM: James Cronin (LP, 6 2/3 IP, 7 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 4 K).
Key inning: Top of the 7th: Tim Dugan led off with a single. With Emile Chanoine up with two outs and runners on second and third, Dugan stole home for the go-ahead run.

Cheltenham 000 001 1 - 2 7 1
Lower Moreland 100 000 0 - 1 4 1

SOL Liberty Division

Quakertown 5, Upper Dublin 1
The pitching was dominant throughout, and the offense came alive in the sixth and seventh for Quakertown, which moved into a first-place tie in the Liberty Division with the 5-1 win in Game 1 of three between the two teams.
Jarred Housten allowed just one run over 6 2/3 innings on the mound.
“I have to give a lot of credit to our guys for executing and being selfless,” said Quakertown coach Jon Pallone. “We had a number of guys willing to sacrifice their at bats to help the team win.
“Jarred Housten straight battled out there. This was the biggest game of the year for him, and he just got better as the game went on. No one gave in at any point.”
By the Numbers: Quakertown:  Cole Reich (2-for-3, 1 double, 1 RBI, 2 runs), Gunner Rahn (2-for-3, 1 RBI), Carter Tucholski (2-for-4, 1 double, 2 RBIs), Jarred Housten (WP, 6 1/3 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 7 K).
Key Inning: Top of the 6th: Trailing 1-0, Cole Reich led off with a single for Quakertown, and Brady Martin followed with a walk. Gunner Rahn advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. A double by Carter Tucholski scored two and gave the Panthers the lead.  Later in the inning with two outs, Logan Niewoehner had an RBI single to make it 3-1.
Quakertown coach Jon Pallone: “Austin Dahl is a heck of a pitcher. We saw him twice last year and I’ll be glad when he’s pitching in college next year.
“We knew we’d see him in the series, so the guys got in the Hudl and watch film on him. I think it helped as much as it can against a guy of his quality. I’m really happy with the way our guys worked their at bats, not aggressive to their pitches and fighting off when they needed to.”
Up Next: Game 2 of the critical series is slated for Wednesday, as Quakertown (10-6, 9-4 SOL) hosts Upper Dublin (11-6, 9-4).

Quakertown 000 003 2 - 5 9 1
Upper Dublin 100 000 0 - 1 2 0

Wissahickon 4, Plymouth Whitemarsh 3
Two hit batters and an error, and then Jack Weiss drew a bases loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh, as Wissahickon capped off a rally from three runs down to knock off Plymouth Whitemarsh 4-3 on Tuesday.
The win not only avenged a loss to the Colonials from Monday, but snapped a two-game losing streak for the Trojans.
By the Numbers: Wissahickon: Giulio Carbo (double, 2 RBIs), Adam Hajdak (WP, 6 1/3 IP, 6 H, 3 ER, 3 BB, 7 K), Charlie Ajemian (WP, 2/3 IP, 0 H, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).
Key Innings: Bottom of the 4th: Trailing 3-0, Wissahickon rallied to tie it. Josh Stonesifer was hit by a pitch, Mark Selverian walked, and Giulio Carbo followed with a two-run double to right, the only hit of the game for the Trojans. Carbo scored from third on an RBI groundout by Ryan Kim.
Bottom of the 7th: Leadoff batter Adam Hajdak was hit by a pitch, and then Kim reached on an error after a sac bunt attempt.  Johnnie Klinger was hit by a pitch to load the bases, and after a pop up, Weiss finished the game off with a five-pitch base on balls.
Wissahickon coach Andy Noga:  “Today was one of the better games we’ve played collectively in all facets of the game. I thought Adam Hajdak settled in very nicely for us after his third inning. He battled through to minimize the damage that inning and then really took command.
“And then Charlie Ajemian, I really can’t overstate how big of a spot that was for him to come into, tie game in the 7th, runners on, and for a freshman to stay composed to get out of that situation was incredible. Really proud of the job he did to flush his at bats, move on and be nails for us on the bump in the biggest spot.
“Defensively we played clean baseball which is huge for us and gave us a chance to be in this game.
“And offensively we did a great job of adjusting and battling in the box as the game went on. We have to give (PW’s Jake) Rauscher credit. He did a great job of keeping our guys off balance and mixing his pitches in any count. He was absolutely cruising for most of the game, and we had to maximize all of our opportunities against him because they were truly few and far between.
“This was a darn good high school baseball game and a fun one to be a part of.”
Up Next: Game 3 of the series and the regular-season league finale for both teams is Thursday as Wissahickon (10-8, 7-7 SOL) plays at PW (9-9, 7-7).
PW 003 000 0 - 3 6 1
Wissahickon 000 300 1 - 4 1 0
