On Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, CB South seniors Angela Crowley, Devlyn Faber & Riley Rooney were recognized for committing to continue their cross country/track & field careers at the collegiate level.
Angela Crowley – DeSales University (Cross Country/Track & Field)
Major: Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges: DeSales, Waynesburg University
Reasons for choosing DeSales: “It was close to home, and the people there seemed really nice. The criminal justice program was also very good there.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track & field at the collegiate level? “I did track for most of my life, so I always knew I wanted to continue doing it.”
Coach Connor Simpson says: “Angela Crowley has been a varsity cross country runner and district qualifying cross country runner for three years. She’s running for DeSales. As far as a contributing member of the team, Angela has been on multiple relays that have run at leagues and districts. She brings a lot of leadership and positive attitude to the team. We’re going to miss her, and we wish her luck at DeSales.”

Devlyn Faber – Duquesne University (Track & Field)
Major: Nursing
Final list of colleges: Duquesne, East Stroudsburg, St. Joseph’s
Reasons for choosing Duquesne: “Duquesne was one of the first schools that I had visited, and I really fell in love with it. I loved the campus – it’s in Pittsburgh, and it’s almost like a suburban campus in the city, so I loved that about it. I also loved their coach as well as the other girls I met on the team. They were really similar to me and really welcoming.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in track and field at the collegiate level? “I probably didn’t think about it until the middle of my junior year. Before that, I wasn’t exactly sure if I could do it in college or if I wanted to, but towards the end of last year – I made it to states for triple jump, and I knew I really wanted to keep doing this when I realized I would be stopping that this year.”
Coach Angelo Lafratta says: “Devlyn was a four-year athlete for track & field. She participates in high jump, long jump and triple jump. She’s an extremely hard worker and dedicated. In the spring of 2024, she finished fifth in triple jump at districts and went on to qualify for states in triple jump. This year for winter track, she qualified in long jump, triple jump and high jump at the Meet of Champs and is a state qualifier again for triple jump. She was one of our team captains. She’s the kind of kid – if anyone has questions, they can go to her, and she’ll help guide them through workouts or anything in general in track or even off the field. She’s just really a nice, kind kid.”

Favorite movie: Mama Mia
Favorite TV show: Friends

Riley Rooney – Penn State University (Cross Country/Track & Field)
Major: Undecided
Final list of colleges: Penn State, Pitt, Kentucky, Michigan State
Reasons for choosing Penn State: “The coaches there are so amazing. When I first started my recruitment process, they were always very welcoming, very nice. Once I went on my official visit, I just knew that was the right place. All the girls were super nice, the facilities are beautiful. It was the perfect.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in cross country and track at the collegiate level? “I’ve been running since I was in third grade, but honestly, I didn’t know that I wanted to run in college until my freshman year after my cross country season. I had a pretty good season, so I was like – maybe this is something I want to do in the future.”
Coach Connor Simpson says: “Riley Rooney has been an integral part of this program for the last four years and the school’s athletic history. She’s a 10-time state medalist – twice in cross country and eight times in indoor and outdoor track. She holds multiple school records in events from the 800 up to the 5,000-meter. She has been on a state championship relay in the distance medley relay as well as multiple state medaling relays. She’s going to be running at Penn State, and we’re very proud of her – sad to see her go but happy that we were able to have her here at South with us.”
