Sydney Torres – Keystone College (Field Hockey)
Major: Criminal Justice
Final list of colleges: Keystone College, Pitt Bradford, West Virginia, Alfred University
Reasons for choosing Keystone College: “It has a good forensic program and an amazing environment for student-athletes.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in field hockey at the collegiate level? “The recruiting process started for me in 10th grade when I was playing club at College Connection tournaments. My dad inspired me to play in college because he got the chance to play in college.”
Coach Amanda Moser: “The amount of growth we as coaches have seen in Sydney from sophomore year to now has been exponential. She went from a timid, quiet sophomore to a hungry senior, assisting our team through some very successful seasons. When I think of her as an athlete, she was and still is the one player I knew I could call on to fill a few positions. I bounced her around one minute in midfield and the next defense. I saw potential in her in a variety of different spots, and not once did she complain.
“She focused and worked hard. I remember one game, (assistant coach Kristin) Jacoby and I turned to each other at the same time and said, ‘Yep, she’s defense, and that is where she should stay’ She shined back there, creating a barrier with her fellow teammates. Most opponents struggled to get through the wall. It was a strong force that she created to defend our goal cage. These past few years, I’ve had the honor of seeing Syd not only grow as an athlete but as a person too. She broke out of her shell, led by example and poured her heart into this sport. Continue to push yourself at Keystone, Syd. They’re lucky to have you, and always remember, we are here for you at Quakertown, cheering you on. Good luck, and I wish you the best.”
