Patrick Kilgus – West Chester University (Baseball)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Arcadia, Bloomsburg, Holy Family
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “Just the environment of West Chester – it’s beautiful there, and the baseball program is awesome. I love the coach. It felt like the right pick for me.”
What was the progression that led you to competing in baseball at the collegiate level? “Around eighth grade, that’s when I realized the talent I had and how I could take it to another level, so I decided to take that career (path), and now I’m here.”
Coach Jim Fasano: “From the moment I saw him swing, I knew he had a chance to hit at a high level. I didn’t know he would become one of the finest high school hitters I’ve seen in my 20ish years coaching this level.
“Pat’s success is a testament to his work ethic and feel for his swing. He went from a raw freshman to a polished senior, with plenty of adjustments in between.
“Beef, as we call him, started every single game for four years, and deservedly so. Not only did he refine his game but became a tremendous leader for us by his senior year. His teammates always respected his playing ability, but more importantly, they grew to respect his presence and voice.
“Beef has work in front of him to make an impact at West Chester, one of the best D2 programs in the country. But I’ve already bet on him many times before and won’t stop now! Aside from his parents I am his biggest fan.
“We will miss him on and off the field, I personally will especially miss his 80’s era feathered mullet as it reminds me of what I was once able to grow.”
