Springfield Township's Silvius to Play Lacrosse at American

On Wednesday, May 28, 2025, Springfield Twp senior Shannon Silvius was recognized for committing to continue her lacrosse career at American University.

Shannon Silvius – American University (Lacrosse)

Major: Political Science

Final list of colleges: American, NESCAC schools, Boston University, Lehigh, Lafayette

Reasons for choosing American:  “American reached out to me in the beginning, and it was one of my top schools, so it was a quick decision for me. I chose it because of the location – I always have loved the city, and it’s easy access to the city. Also, I liked the distance - my family can come visit me and come to my games.”

What was the progression that led you to competing in lacrosse at the collegiate level? “I probably set my heart on it around seventh or eighth grade. I knew I wanted to continue this sport outside of high school, and that’s when I really fell in love with lacrosse.”

Coach Katrina Metz:  It was a great night going to Shannon's signing event here at the high school. She is an extremely hard worker, determined, knows what she wants, and sets goals to get there and accomplishes it. She is a great leader and led by example in everything she did while here - whether it was conditioning drills, team play or even staying after practice to work on something she wanted to focus on. I am so proud of her and so happy that she gets to continue her dream to play at the next level. She has worked so hard to get here, and it is so nice to see a great athlete and person achieve their goals. She leaves some big shoes to fill but left an incredible blueprint for those to follow after her.”
