New Hope-Solebury coach Chris Van Pelt:
--On the game:
“It was a good start. We scored off a well-worked corner then became very complacent and allowed them to quickly get back into the game.  A lot of credit has to be given to Jenkintown. They've made great strides from when we played them last year, and they made things really difficult for us especially in the first half.
“We made some adjustments at halftime that seemed to pay off, and I have to give my guys credit for finding a way again to win the game late like we did against Moravian Academy.  We created some really good chances in the second half and moved the ball much better, which was encouraging - we just couldn't capitalize or find that finishing touch at times. There's still a lot for us to work on and figure out. We graduated 12 seniors, so this group is still finding their identity, but they've come a long way very quickly this preseason, and I'm proud of the start they've given us with everything we are hoping to accomplish this year.”
Up next: New Hope-Solebury (2-0) will host Springfield Twp in the SOL opener for both teams on Thursday.

NORTH PENN 3, LANSDALE CATHOLIC 1
Ryan Smith – the man of the match – scored a pair of goals after halftime, breaking a 1-1 tie and propelling the Knights to the win in Tuesday’s rivalry game. Fion Regan scored a first-half goal, and Matt Bakir had a pair of assists in the Knights’ second win of the young season.
Scoring summary
First half
LC goal
Fionn Regan (NP) assisted by Matt Bakir
Second half
Ryan Smith (NP) assisted by Matt Bakir
Ryan Smith (NP) assisted by Carson Schell
--On the game: “We didn’t get off to the start I expected, and within 10 minutes, we had allowed a couple of chances.  LC’s captain #10, Chris Monahan, is a dynamic player with pace, and he made a great run from midfield to get on the end of a ball from their striker (Milan J), and we were down a goal for the second straight game.
“But we turned things around quickly and tied it with a cross from Matt Bakir that Fionn Regan finished in the goalmouth.  We regrouped at the half and the second half was a different story entirely.  We didn’t let them out of their half for 20 minutes and had a handful of chances.
“Ryan Smith was the man of the match for us, coming up from left back to put his head on two great balls, one from Matt Bakir again and the other from Carson Schell.  Carson hit the post as well, and I thought we should have scored another, but I was happy with the way we played in the second half and hopefully we will build on that as we get into conference play on Thursday. We need to start games better and convert some more quality chances.”
--Props: “Matt Bakir and Kyle Barros played well on the wings, and Cole Taylor was solid again at center back.  Fionn Regan was a handful again, and credit to our other midfielders (Gavin Keijzer, Logan Bocklet and Logan Sanith) for doing the dirty work and allowing Fionn to get forward more.”
Up next: North Penn (2-0) will travel to Central Bucks West for Thursday’s SOL opener.

CENTRAL BUCKS SOUTH 3, DOWNINGTOWN WEST 2
CB South earned their first win of the season by defeating visiting Downingtown West.  It was a tight battle, but CB South was always on the front foot.  South opened the scoring six minutes into the game when Dylan Lynch played a ball through to Nate Monser.  Nate slipped it past the rushing goalkeeper to give the Titans an early lead.
A clumsy foul gave Downingtown West a penalty kick 23 minutes into the first half which they converted to tie the match.  However, CB South was able to regain the lead just 3 minutes later when AJ Okoniewski played a ball through to Andriy Popelnytskiy who re-directed to an on running Nate Monser.  Nate fired the ball off the crossbar, but Jackson Tait was there to head the ball back into the goal to restore the one-goal advantage for the Titans.
That didn’t last long as Downingtown West was able to put in a beautiful attack to split through the CB South defense and tie the match at 2-2 just 4 minutes later.  It wasn’t until there was 14 minutes remaining in the match that CB South put the game away.  Once again, it was AJ Okoniewski playing a beautiful through ball, this time to Jackson Tait who dribbled past the goalkeeper and then finished past several defenders in the goal.  CB South was able to close out the game for their first win of the season.
By the Numbers:
First Half
Nate Monser (CBS) From Andriy Popelnytskiy

Second Half
Jackson Tait (CBS) from AJ Okoniewski
Coach Ed Brdnardic:
It was an emotional match.  Our first home game of the season, and we faced a spirited Downingtown West team.  We are very happy with the amount of scoring chances we create, but we are still making things difficult on ourselves by not finishing our chances. We appreciate it takes a little longer before the offense starts to click and tonight we made some progress, but we still have a ways to go.”
Props:
AJ Okoniewski – “AJ was our player of the game.  He was a tireless workhorse again for us today.  He was so dangerous on the dribble, slipping past several defenders with ease, and he was a dynamic distributor as well.  He played a big part in the build up for our second goal, and it was his through ball pass to Jackson Tait that cut through the heart of the Downingtown defense that finished the game.”
Alex Otto – “Alex earned his first varsity start and didn’t disappoint.  He gave us some very valuable minutes in the midfield with an incredible work rate.  But what I loved about his performance the most is that he plays quick, and his passes always find a man.  He played simple and it kept us on the attack.”
Jackson Tait – “Tonight Jackson was dangerous in attack whether we played him up top or split him out wide.  It really didn’t matter.  Jackson really came on strong towards the end of last year as a sophomore, and now has the confidence which makes him very dangerous.
Up next: Central Bucks South (1-2) will travel to Central Bucks East for Thursday’s SOL opener (7pm).

GARNET VALLEY 4, PLYMOUTH WHITEMARSH 2
The Colonials came up short in Tuesday’s opener but displayed their resilience by battling back from a 3-0 halftime deficit with a pair of second-half goals.
Scoring summary
Dom Lorenti (PW) penalty kick, 49th minute
Kevin DiMarco (PW) from Finn Lafferty
PW coach Toni Washington:

--On the game: “We started off flat and didn’t pick up the intensity until the second half. We played an athletic and physical team that didn’t give us any time to play around with the ball. We need to be physically and mentally prepared for physical battles by playing smarter and working as a unit the entire 80 minutes of play. Once we played quicker passes to feet, we were able to connect and work our way up the field.

I’m proud that we were able to respond back with two goals to make it a competitive game. We showed that we are here to play till the end, and that meant a lot to me that I have a team that will not give up no matter what.
With three games back-to-back-to-back, the players were told to rest up and get back at it tomorrow.
Up next: Plymouth Whitemarsh (0-1) will host Norristown in a non-league game Wednesday.

PW coach Aaron Rapsinski:  “It was not our best day today. We let them dictate play most of the first half. We made some positive changes at halftime but weren’t able to capitalize on the few chances we had. Credit to Boyertown for playing a tough game today. They scored with about seven minutes left in the game. We’re looking to bounce back against Souderton Thursday.”

Council Rock South coach Alan Nicholl: “We were very poor in the first half and should have been down by more than a goal at halftime. Sean Davis scored to tie the score on a PK in the second half, but Wood scored a free kick to win it with 18 minutes left.  It’s early still, and a lot of season in front of us.  It’ll go a long way when some of the little mistakes get cleaned up.”
