2009 BB All-District One Team

How the team was chosen: The 2009 All-District One AAAA team was determined through the efforts of many people. Ballots were sent to various newspaper writers, high school coaches, college coaches, and select people in the area who watch lots and lots of basketball. Additionally an open ballot was available on pennsburyhoops.com where fans we able to cast their vote. The voting system allowed each person to choose ten players from the list and rank them from best to tenth best. Points were assigned to each vote (10 pts for 1st, 9 for 2nd, and so on), total points were accumulated, and the honorees were divided into three five-person teams. The only criterion was that the player must attend a AAAA school in District One. The player’s position was not taken into account for place on first, second, or third team.

 FIRST TEAM
 
Dalton Pepper – Pennsbury – Senior – Guard (Player of the Year)
Pepper led Pennsbury (24-6) to their fourth straight undefeated league championship and into the PIAA AAAA State playoffs for the fourth time. Pepper has played on half of the state qualifiers in school history. Dalton was a three-time all-state selection (twice on first team) and was honored by the Associated Press as the 2009 Pennsylvania Player of the Year. He finished his career with 2,207 points and 962 rebounds. As the leading vote getter, Dalton earned the title of District One AAAA Player of the Year. Pepper will head to West Virginia University to play for Coach Bob Huggins.
 
Rahlir Jefferson – Chester – Senior – Forward
Jefferson led the Clippers to a share of the Del Val League Championship. Rahlir averaged 17.6 points per game and collected 25 double-doubles for the 24-5 Chester team that once again qualified for the state playoffs. A first-team all-state selection, Rahlir will take his talents to Temple University and play for Coach Fran Dunphy.
 
Tyree Johnson – Penn Wood – Junior – Guard
Johnson was the catalyst for the State Champion Penn Wood Patriots. While leading the Patriots (28-4) to a share of the Del Val championship and the state gold medal, Johnson averaged 12.6 points, 6.8 assists and 4.9 steals per game. Johnson, just a junior, was also honored at the Delaware County Player of the Year by the Delaware County Times.
 
Aaric Murray – Glen Mills – Senior – Center
Murray led the Battling Bulls back to the State Playoffs. Murray was a first-team all-state selection in 2009, after being a member of the second-team during his junior campaign. Aaric averaged 17.5 points and 12.4 rebound per game. Aaric will play at LaSalle University for Coach Dr. John Giannini.
 
Khalif Wyatt – Norristown – Senior – Guard
Wyatt paced the Eagles to the 2009 District One title and into the state playoffs for the second straight season. Khalif averaged 20.0 per game for the 23-6 SOL American co-Champs and was honored as the conference’s Player of the Year. Khalif, who went over the 1,000 point plateau during the District Playoffs, was a two-time second-team all-state selection. Wyatt will play for Coach Fran Dunphy at Temple University.
 
SECOND TEAM
 
Will Barrett – Central Bucks South – Senior – Forward
Barrett led the Titans in scoring and rebounding en route to a 22-7 record. Will helped CB South to the first league title and state playoff berth in school history. Barrett was named Suburban One League Continental Conference Player of the Year. Will has committed to play basketball at Princeton for Coach Sydney Johnson.
 
Aaron Brown – Penn Wood – Sophomore – Guard / Forward
Brown helped the Patriots win the 2009 AAAA State Title. Penn Wood also shared the Del Val League Championship and won the silver medal in District play. Aaron, who averaged 13.2 points per game, was selected third-team all state for his efforts.
 
Jake Cohen – Conestoga – Senior – Center
Cohen took the Pioneers to the District Final Four, a State playoff berth, and a 29-4 overall record, while averaging 17.0 points per game. Cohen earned third-team all-state honors. Jake will head to Davidson University and play for Coach Bob McKillop
 
Duane Johnson – Penn Wood – Senior – Forward
The seasoned veteran on the 28-4 State Title team, Johnson was honored with a second-team all-state team selection. Duane, who 13.7 points per game, helped guide the Patriots to a share of the Del Val league title and earn a District Silver to go along with his state Gold.
 
Greg Robbins – Lower Merion – Senior – Guard / Forward
Robbins led Lower Merion in scoring (18.6 per game) and rebounding and took the Aces to the Central League Championship and back to the PIAA Playoffs. Robbins, a three-time all-state honoree, will continue his career at the University of Richmond under Coach Chris Mooney.
 
THIRD TEAM
 
CJ Aiken – Plymouth Whitemarsh – Junior – Forward
Aiken led the Colonials to a share of the Suburban One League American title and an appearance in the State Final Four. Aiken averaged 14.0 points per game for the 25-6 Colonials. Just a junior, Aiken was named third-team all-state.
 
Jaylen Bond – Plymouth Whitemarsh – Sophomore – Guard / Forward
Bond helped the 25-6 Colonials to a share of the SOL American Conference title and a berth in the State Final Four. Jaylen was honored as a third-team all-league selection. Just a sophomore, Bond is already a highly sought-after recruit.
 
Jimmy Connolly – Souderton – Senior – Guard
Connolly averaged over 18 points per game and was selected to the first team Suburban One League. Jimmy earned a full scholarship to Philadelphia University where he will play for Coach Herb Magee.
 
Eddie DiRugeris – Pennsbury – Senior – Guard
DiRugeris was a two-time first-team all-league selection. He helped guide the Falcons to two undefeated league titles and two PIAA State playoff appearances in his two years at Pennsbury. Eddie earned a full scholarship to play for Herb Magee at Philadelphia University.
 
Maurice “Mo” Nelson – Chester – Junior – Guard
Nelson paced the Clippers to a 24-5 record and a share of the Del Val League title. Mo, a dangerous shooter, averaged 15 points per game. Nelson helped guide the Clippers to the PIAA State Tournament.
