MEN’S BASKETBALL
Junior Lavoy Allen (Pennsbury) is averaging 11.5 points and 10.4 rebounds a game for a Temple squad that has cracked the Top 25 for the first time since November 2001. The Owls, who are riding a five-game winning streak, are ranked #21 by the Associated Press and #25 by the ESPN/USA Today poll. They have wins over a pair of previously undefeated Big East squads (#8/8 Villanova and Seton Hall). The Owls are 9-2 on the season. A preseason first team all-Atlantic 10 Conference and a 2009 A-10 all-defensive selection, the 6-9 forward just passed Eddie Jones for eighth place on the Owls’ all-time blocked shot list and now has 119. He has posted 18 double-doubles over his career, including three this season. With his 17 rebounds in the team’s 75-65 win over then #3 Villanova, he moved into the Top 25 on the Temple career rebounds list, moving into the 21st spot with 603 rebounds.
Freshman Dalton Pepper (Pennsbury) has seen action in nine games for a West Virginia squad that is 10-0 and ranked No. 6 in the nation. He is averaging 3.9 points a game.
WOMEN’S BASKETBALL
Ashley Gale (Cheltenham) scored a game-high and tied her season-high with 19 points, but it wasn’t enough as Villanova defeated LaSalle 44-41 on Tuesday.
Misha Horsey (Cheltenham) has seen action in all 10 games and started nine for a Stony Brook squad that is 2-8. The junior guard is averaging 6.2 points a game.
FOOTBALL
Freshman Brandon McManus (North Penn) is a key member of Temple’s football team that is making its first bowl appearance in 30 years when the Owls take on UCLA on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 4:30 p.m., in the EagleBank Bowl at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The freshman placekicker has connected on 17-of-24 field goal attempts and was a near-perfect 14-of-15 from 39 yards and under. His long field goal was 45 yards. The game will be televised live on ESPN.
WRESTLING
Freshman James Bak (Harry S. Truman) is wrestling at 125 for a Bloomsburg University team that is 7-2. The freshman wrestler is 2-7 on the season. Bak notched a 3-2 decision in Bloomsburg’s 43-5 win over NCCO.
Jesse Dunn (Harry S. Truman) pinned Lance Pictel at 149 in East Stroudsburg’s 27-16 win over No. 19 Mercyhurst. He earned an 11-7 decision in ESU’s 32-9 win over Seton Hill. East Stroudsburg went 3-0 at the Seton Hill Duals on Saturday, Dec. 19.
