SuburbanOneSports.com will once again be recognizing a male and featured athlete each week. The awards, sponsored by Univest, will be given to seniors of good character who are students in good standing that have made significant contributions to their teams. Selections are based on nominations received from coaches, athletic directors and administrators

Abby Mitchell is a member of Council Rock North’s swimming team. The senior captain is described by coach Ted Schueller as the team’s ‘mother hen,’ and while Mitchell has been a leader in and out of the pool, she is best defined by her selfless approach to the sport. She is more than happy to pick up crucial second or third place finishes. “She is just the total team kid, just does whatever is asked of her, no questions asked,” Schueller said. Next year, the Rock North senior will be competing in cross country and track at Elizabethtown. She will major in occupational therapy.

Nick Lynch has been a silent contributor to Hatboro-Horsham’s wrestling team. The senior captain could very well finish the season with 30 wins, and he’s done it without fanfare. Lynch has earned all-academic honors the past two years, and for his senior project, he took flying lessons as he pursues his pilot’s license. “You couldn’t ask for a better kid,” coach Glenn Kaiser said. “He’s just a great kid.” Lynch, who is being recruited by Wilkes, York and Elizabethtown, will major in engineering.
