Liz Taliaferro is one of the unsung heroes on this year’s Cheltenham Lady Panthers’ basketball squad that completed the regular season with a 21-1 record and is the top-seeded team in the upcoming District One AAAA Tournament. The first player off the bench for the Lady Panthers, the speedy senior guard ignites the Lady Panthers’ suffocating defense. “She truly is the one who sees the value in being on a team and working hard,” coach Bob Schaefer said. “She’s just on top of everything. She’s just a great, great kid.” An honors student, Taliaferro will be attending Stanford University where she will major in biology (pre-med) with the goal of becoming a pediatrician.

Dan Yocum has given new meaning to the concept of putting others first. The Souderton senior assists a teammate with autism, volunteers at his church, attends Souderton Borough Council meetings, and he still finds time to excel in the pool for his swim team. He was a state place winner in both the 500 and 200. “He’s a team-first kind of guy,” coach Todd Bauer said. “He cares about the success of the team and the guys on the team.” Yocum will be attending George Mason University where he will major in public administration with his sights set on pursing a job in local government.
