Univest Featured Athletes (Week of 3-8-10)

SuburbanOneSports.com recognizes a male and featured athlete each week. The awards, sponsored by Univest, are given to seniors of good character who are students in good standing that have made significant contributions to their teams. Selections are based on nominations received from coaches, athletic directors and administrators.

 

Alex Galdi was a captain and key member of both Upper Merion’s volleyball and basketball teams. A four-year varsity player for a volleyball team that has not lost a league game in three years, Galdi, a first team all-league and second team all-district selection, is as well known for her ever-present smile and positive demeanor as she is for her strong play at the net. On the basketball court, Galdi, described by her coach as an ‘undersized post player,’ averaged close to a double-double and earned second team all-league honors. “Alex is just a wonderful, wonderful person,” volleyball coach Tony Funston said. “At times, people say she’s too nice, but she has a great competitive edge to her as well. She treats everyone like they’re her best friend. I don’t know if Alex has an enemy in the world. I don’t think she has ever given anyone a reason not to like her – other than an opponent she blocks at the net.”

Tyler Wolfe was an important member of both Quakertown’s golf and wrestling squads. A captain of his wrestling team, Wolfe was someone who led by example. He closed his career as one of the top 10 all-time pinners at Quakertown. Wolfe was also a captain of his golf team and qualified for districts as a senior. “He’s a pretty quiet guy, but if he doesn’t agree with you, he’ll sit and debate with you for as long as you sit and debate with him,” coach Kurt Handel said. “He’s a very articulate and intelligent young man.” Wolfe ranks in the top five percent of his class.
