BASEBALL
LaSalle University sophomore Jon Gyles (Central Bucks West) was named to the All-Big 5 Baseball Team. The sophomore first baseman hit .343 with two home runs and 47 RBIs.
Gwynedd-Mercy College senior Scott Carroll (Council Rock South) received first team honors on the 2010 All-CSAC Baseball Team. The senior shortstop hit .414 (52-of-126) with 10 doubles, one triple and 10 home runs. He boasted a slugging percentage of .586 with 46 RBIs. Teammate Tom Weiss (William Tennent) was selected for the CSAC All-Sportsmanship Team.
WOMEN’S LACROSSE
Marist sophomore Kelly Condon (Abington) was named the 2010 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year. She also was named to the All-MAAC First Team. The sophomore attack player led Marist in scoring with 38 goals and 21 assists during the regular. She recorded 50 of her 61 points during the regular season in Marist’s last nine games. In six conference games, Condon led the MAAC with 3.5 goals per game, 2.67 assists per game and 6.17 points per game. She had eight points in games at Canisius and against Manhattan and nine points on five goals and four assists at Iona. Overall, Condon finished the regular season as the MAAC leader in assists, averaging 1.53 per game. She was also third in the conference with 4.07 points per game and fifth with 2.53 goals per game. Twice over the course of the season, she was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week. Condon closed out the year with 44 goals and 24 assists for 68 points. Marist won its second Metro Atlantic Conference title in three years this season and made its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Tournament. In an opening round game, the Red Foxes took on a top-seeded Maryland squad that went on to capture the NCAA title. The Terrapins defeated the Red Foxes 20-5.
Senior Lindsey Moyer (Pennridge) was selected to represent East Stroudsburg University in the IWLCA Division II North-South Senior All-Star Game on June 12 in Downingtown. Moyer had 14 goals and two assists as a senior, contributing to an attack that set the school record with 232 goals as the Warriors made the PSAC playoffs and tied the school victory mark with 11 wins for the second time in three years. She closed out her career with 38 goals and seven assists, including three hat tricks. She also tallied 14 goals as a junior. Moyer will compete for the North squad and is the fifth Warrior to be selected to play in the senior all-star game in three years. The game will be held at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown at 1 p.m.
James Madison University junior Mary Kate Lomady (Abington) was named to the second team 2010 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-America team. A junior attacker, she also was named to the second team of the 2010 Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Association (IWLCA) All-South Region Team. Lomady also earned first team All-CAA honors. She led JMU in goals (46) and free-position goals (10) and was tied for third in caused turnovers. Lomady was selected CAA Player of the Week April 25 for her game-high five goals against Old Dominion and her two goals against William and Mary.
East Stroudsburg University freshman Jennifer Kelly (Abington) earned a spot on the WomensLacrosse.com Division II All-Rookie team for the 2010 season. A second team All-PSAC East selection, Kelly started 14 games at defender and is the Warriors’ second All-Rookie selection in as many years. She was second on the team with 21 caused turnovers and had 33 ground balls and 10 draw controls as an immediate contributor for the Warriors, starting the first eight games before missing two weeks due to injury. She had a season-high four caused turnovers against nationally-ranked West Chester a week after she returned and was often asked to mark the opponents’ best player. Kelly’s arrival at ESU allowed head coach Lynne Elpick to move Laura Riegel – who last year was named to the all-rookie team – to midfield for her sophomore season where she led the Warriors with 54 ground balls and also had 16 goals and five assists. Kelly and Riegel are among 11 returning starters for the 2011 season and are joined by four All-PSAC East selections, including rising senior Michelle Mangiaruga (North Penn). Mangiaruga was named to the IWLCA All-Region second team.
Chestnut Hill sophomore Kelly McKay (Pennridge) was named to the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Spring All-Academic Team. McKay, a communications major with a 3.64 GPA, contributed seven goals and three assists (10 points) to close out the season as the lacrosse team’s fifth top scorer. She started 16 out of 17 contests.
Gwynedd-Mercy College junior Colleen Dellostretto (Upper Moreland) received second team all-Colonial States Athletic Conference honors. She started all 18 games and was the Griffins’ top scorer with 57 goals and 10 assists (67 points). She also was credited with 19 ground balls and 32 draw controls. Teammate Shannon Carabba (Springfield) was selected as honorable mention. Carabba contributed 49 goals and 20 assists as well as 20 ground balls and 19 draw controls.
