Soudertown rising senior attack Kirstin Russell has made a verbal commitment to play Division I lacrosse at George Mason University.
Russell, a 3-year varsity starter, was a first-team Suburban One American Conference pick in 2010 and has helped Souderton reach the playoffs for all three years.
“It was not that difficult to choose George Mason because it really had everything I was looking for in a school,” said Russell. “I absolutely love the coaches there and from what I’ve seen it’s a very closely knit team and I can’t wait to be a part of it all!”
She will join fellow PA Express teammate Sally Clark (Downingtown West) as a George Mason recruit. The Patriots are coached by Lauren Rywak (Mason alum).
Along with lacrosse, Russell is a 3-year varsity starter in field hockey, a student council officer and has earned Distinguished Honors in the classroom. She is going back and forth between majoring in business and education.
“I enjoy management and that aspect of business,” she said. “However, recently through coaching I have realized I love working with younger kids and have started considering education.”
Russell, also a recipient of both the president’s education award and principal’s award, is optimistic for the 2011 season.
“I can’t wait to see what happens in 2011 in the upcoming season,” said Russell. “We have a good group of returning varsity starters and I hope to go further in districts this coming season!”
