The last thing that Council Rock North head coach Adam Collachi said to his beleaguered Indians (0-2) after their stunning 42-0 loss to host Central Bucks South (1-1) was to “turn the page.”
“I have been in this game for over 20 years and sometimes I have been on the good end of the score, and sometimes I have been on this end,” said Collachi – the first year head coach for Rock North. “Sure it stings quite a bit, but we have to come to work on Monday and get ready for Thursday night.
“We showed today that there is room for improvement,” understated the coach. “We have to coach better, and knowing this group of kids we are going to get better.”
Count on it.
Council Rock North played the game without either of its Division One players – superlative running back Brandon Cottom (Purdue) and powerful tight end John Raymon (Iowa). The two talented Indian seniors were on the Rock North sideline – in shorts.
“Right now it is day to day with both,” said Collachi. “Brandon (foot) might be a little closer to playing. We might have to wait a little longer for John (foot).”
The good news for Rock North was that both Cottom and Raymon were a day closer to playing – the bad news was the rest of the game.
CB South opened the season a week ago with a loss to Council Rock South. And the frowns that were worn after that game by cool junior quarterback Matt Johns and fiery senior middle linebacker Graham Lichtner were replaced with smiles.
“We worked on execution a lot this week,” said Johns who completed 12 passes for 204 yards and a touchdown. “This week we didn’t panic with the blitzes.
“The offensive line and defensive lines set the tone for the game,” added Johns.
The South offensive line punished the Rock North defensive front and helped the Titans generate 388 yards of total offense and six touchdowns.
South’s defensive line was equally dominant limiting Rock North to just four first downs and zero points.
“A shutout is always great, and the whole defense really stepped up,” said Lichtner. “We played as a team, and we stopped them three times during the game on fourth down. It was a momentum changer.”
Central Bucks South took a 7-0 lead on its second possession of the game. The Titans moved 73-yards on just six plays for the score – an 18-yard TD bolt by junior Chris Veal. DJ Wenske added the placement.
South scored 21 points in the second period to blow the game out of the water.
The Titans moved 56 yards on six plays for its second TD. Ben Torres capped the drive with a two-yard touchdown run, but the PAT was blocked and South settled for a 13-0 lead.
South struck quickly for its third touchdown. Bobby DiPasquale scored on a six-yard run, but the highlight of the drive was a gorgeous 40-yard pass completion from Johns to Josh Williams. Again the Titans failed on the PAT and the score was 19-0.
Johns used his legs to get into the end zone later in the period when he dashed in on a 26-yard score. Again the Titans failed on the PAT, and the score held at 25-0.
Wenske – who had missed three successive placements – redeemed himself with one second left in the half with a booming 25-yard field goal.
The Titans added to the lead on the first drive of the second half as Johns drilled his lone TD pass to Dan Bechta for a 13-yard score.
South closed out the scoring with a 55-yard touchdown scamper by Torres. Wenske’s placement concluded the scoring at 42-0.
The win was the first of the season for South head coach Dan Rackovan. Rackovan coached last season at Princeton University as the offensive co coordinator.

“This was nice win for us,” said Lichtner as he walked off the Titan field. “Norristown is going to be a test for us next week.”
Norristown lost to Downingtown East this week 49-14. And you can bet that the Eagles will also be ‘turning the page’.
