National Conference
Neshaminy 2, Council Rock North 1
The Redskins proved once again that the National Conference is very balanced. Neshaminy scored on a pair of penalty kicks to knock off No. 2 Rock North.
Sean Sheridan scored the first in the first half.
Redskin freshman goalie Austin Brotman came up big, diving for a Rock PK to maintain the lead, but Rock’s Chris Beal knotted the score at one before Mike Schofield converted Neshaminy’s second PK on a handball with 15 minutes left.
Neshaminy is now 4-3 in the league, while the Indians fall to 5-2.
Continental Conference
Central Bucks East 0, Souderton 0
Neither team had any good scoring chances on a wet and windy day. East had seven shots to Souderton’s five.
“Both teams didn’t give up much,” said Patriot coach Mike Gorni.
With the tie, East maintains its hold on first place with the first half of the season concluded.
“I’m pleasantly surprised we came out of the first half on top,” said Gorni.
Hatboro-Horsham 2, North Penn 1
The Hatters did East a favor by tagging North Penn with its first league loss.
“It was good for my boys to beat a good team like that,” said HH coach Kyle McGrath.
The wind was a big factor. North Penn took a 1-0 lead on a Wes Fossile goal with the wind at his back with four minutes left in the first half.
The lead might have been larger had Hatter keeper Gabe Fernandez not come up with a few great saves.
With a trailing wind in the second half, Hatboro’s Chris Hobbs banged in a rebound off the North Penn keeper in the 55th minute to knot the score.
Jeff O'Brien netted the game winner off a half volley from about 18 yards out in the 65th minute.
North Penn nearly tied it up in the last minute on a shot that banged off the goal post.
Alex Badulak and Connor Ryan were credited with assists for Hatboro-Horsham.
Pennridge 7, Quakertown 1
When the Rams do well, they score in bunches. The goals came Thursday about as hard and fast as the downpours.
Joey Larwa celebrated his first return to the lineup since last year by leading the Rams with a pair of goals.
Larwa underwent groin surgery in June and has just been OKed to play.
Also contributing to the scoring barrage were Mike Shenk, Alex Stear, Joe Mesgai, Zach Midgett and Cody Zickler.
Quakertown scored the final goal with three minutes left on a set piece.
“They’re a scrappy, good young bunch,” said Pennridge coach Peter Valimont.
The win puts the Rams into the win column at 3-2-1.
“It’s been a frustrating season,” said Valimont, whose team started 2-0 but then lost to North Penn and C.B. East in league play because of a scoring dearth. “It’s been an up and down roller coaster ride. I still feel we’re OK. We have guys with a lot of experience. Our goal now is to get a first-round home game.”

American Conference
Wissahickon 2, Cheltenham 0 (OT)
Brandon Irvine isn’t a household name at Wissahickon. But the senior came off the bench to win the game for the Trojans.
“He’s not the most technical player,” said coach Stuart Malcolm, “but he’s strong and fast and works hard in practice. He gives us a different dimension in games.”
Cheltenham took the lead 25 minutes into the first half, and Irvine tied it 20 minutes into the second.
Irvine also scored the game winner from a few yards out following the tap in the first overtime.
The Trojans are now 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the conference.

Tuesday’s games
Pennsbury 1, Council Rock South 0
After losing a pair of one-goal games to Abington and Council Rock North last week, it was time for the Falcons to put up or shut up.
They spoke up.
Thaddeus Heinz took a through ball from Sawyer Waters in the 69th minute and slotted a shot into the right hand side of the goal.
“It was a very nice win,” said Pennsbury coach Tom Stoddart. “It was bigger than it needed to be, but I’m pleased to go on the road and get another victory.”
The Falcons’ destiny is now in their own hands. They can hardly afford another slipup in such a balanced league.
Upper Moreland 1, Cheltenham 0
Also, in an American Conference matchup between a pair of teams fighting for playoff contention, Upper Moreland nicked Cheltenham, 1-0.
Upper Moreland’s defense set the tone of the match early and often, allowing very little for the Panthers to feed off. Kyle Lynch, Nate Roberts and Carl Wambold performed brilliantly, while Kyle Walder and Tim Uvegas each shared the shutout in goal as well as time in the fullback position which solidified UM’s victory.
The lone goal of the match came from Menvekah Daramay as he intercepted a pass attempt that led to a breakaway goal. Upper Moreland’s latest victory puts its season record to 6-1.
