Katie Walsh just might be everything that is good about high school sports. The spirited Central Bucks South senior bided her time on a field hockey team that captured conference and district titles and advanced to the state semifinals last year. This year she has earned a spot in the defensive backfield for a Titan squad with state title aspirations, and she is excelling. “She worked hard and stuck with it,” coach Christina Ford said. “She didn’t quit, she didn’t give up. She never complained, and now she’s earned her time. She’s definitely earned her time. It’s not – ‘Oh, we don’t have anyone else to put there.’ She really has stepped up and is doing great.” Walsh plays hockey year round, competing with the FSC club squad, and for the past three years, she has volunteered her time to coach in the community youth program.
An honors student who is in the National Honor Society, Walsh is a member of Titan Council as well as the Key Club. She is one of two senior Altar Servers at her church, and she is also a pre-school Sunday School teacher.
Walsh plans to pursue an education major at college with her sights set on becoming an English teacher as well as a field hockey coach.

Univest’s SuburbanOneSports.com Featured Male Athlete (Week of Oct. 4)
Colby Lederer excels on both the golf course and wrestling mat. A two-year captain in both sports, the Neshaminy senior finished the regular season ranked sixth in the SOL golf rankings and has qualified for districts. “The best part of his golf game is his mental game,” coach Ken Gurysh said. “He has great focus and is able to play in the now and not dwell on a bad shot he hit on the last hole. He’s able to be pretty resilient. Nothing can make you more mentally tough than wrestling.” Lederer has been wrestling for 13 years and is a two-time regional qualifier.
Last summer, Lederer found himself an unwitting hero when – on his way out of the doctor’s office – he spotted a distraught mother trying to break into a locked car to rescue her infant child who was accidentally locked in the car in the oppressive heat. Without a second thought, Lederer ran to his car for his sand wedge, which the doctor used to break the window and rescue the infant. The infant was fine, but Lederer’s sand wedge was broken in half. “He’s that kind of kid,” Gurysh said. “He would jump in to help anybody in a second that needed help, but he doesn’t like the spotlight, which is kind of interesting in this day and age because there are not too many kids of his ability and talent that don’t want to be in the spotlight.”
Lederer’s future plans are uncertain, but he is leaning toward a business major and will continue either his golf or wrestling career at the collegiate level.
