Sterling Limousine Players of the Game (CR North vs. CR South)

Sterling Limousine and Transportation Services is proud to recognize the Players of the Game for Friday night’s SOL Game of the Week between Council Rock South and Council Rock North. CR South senior Billy Fleming and CR North junior Cal Parker were named the Offensive Players of the Game while Rock South senior Matt Emilius and CR South junior Steve Sroba were named the Defensive Players of the Game.

STERLING LIMOUSINE OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME
Billy Fleming – Council Rock South
Rock South’s senior quarterback ran for 82 yards and two touchdowns. He also completed the only two passes he threw, both to PJ Gallo. The first – a 48-yard completion – set up a three-yard TD run by Fleming. His second completion – this one of 19 yards – came on a key third-and-long and allowed the Golden Hawks to run out the clock on their 27-25 win.

Coach Vince Bedesem says: “Hats off to our coaches – offensive coordinator Johnny Donohoe, Ryan Swann and Bill Ferrara up in the box. The three of them collaborated, threw out the ideas, and the third-down pass was the one that stuck on the wall. It’s a good play for us. Billy does a nice job of sticking the pass, and PJ did a super job of catching the football. There’s another kid that has been a big-time player for us.

“I have been saying for years now, and the one thing I talk about with our school in general – it’s great when you get the kids in the weight room, it’s great having the workouts and all that, but Billy plays baseball for our baseball team, and when you compete at a high level, especially in his position - the best thing we can have from him for our football team is that calmness. The hotter it gets, the calmer he gets it seems. That leadership takes right off with that.”

Cal Parker – Council Rock North
Parker was asked to step up when senior Brandon Cottom was injured on the opening drive of the second half. The junior running back – who also lined up at quarterback - had six straight carries on a Rock North touchdown drive that made it a 27-19 game. He also had six carries in the Indians’ next scoring drive to pull the Indians to within two (27-25). For the game, Parker had 40 yards on 15 carries – most in the pivotal second half.

Coach Adam Collachi says: “When Brandon went down with an injury, we had to slide him over, and he was actually taking snaps at quarterback, which he had never done. He played his heart out. He just manned up and did what he had to do. He carried the ball with confidence and exuded confidence to the rest of the team. The work he did on Friday night typified what that game meant to everybody.”

STERLING LIMOUSINE DEFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE GAME

Matt Emilius – Council Rock South
The Golden Hawks’ senior defensive lineman came up with numerous big plays in Friday’s win. He delivered a huge second-half sack to set up a big three-and-out for the Indians. He was a key to a Rock South defense that limited the Indians to just 207 yards of total offense.

Coach Vince Bedesem says: “Matthew has been starting since he was a sophomore. He might not be the biggest, strongest, fastest, but there’s no one who can play football as well as he can. He is a football player, and in my eyes, that’s the highest honor you can get. He’s just a flat out football player. He comes up so big. He has a great desire to compete, and he just does a super, super job.”

Steve Sroba – Council Rock North
The Indians’ junior outside linebacker was involved in the action on both sides of the football. He played a key role in Rock North’s second half defensive effort that allowed just seven points – and that TD came on the opening drive of the second half. On the offensive side of the ball, Sroba caught a nine-yard touchdown pass to cap a 61-yard scoring drive on the Indians’ opening possession of the game.

Coach Adam Collachi says: “Sroba never left the field. He played the whole game on offense, and he played the whole game on special teams and all the reps on defense. Their offense is so hard to prepare for, and they run it so well. Just being in on tackles, helping to create a turnover at the end of the game and being involved in all that stuff – just all the work he had to do offensively, defensively and on special teams.”
