On Friday, Nov. 12, 2010, Hatboro-Horsham senior Matt Hollenbeck signed a letter of intent to accept a baseball scholarship to Georgetown University.

Reasons for choosing Georgetown: “I went down to Georgetown for Junior Day in February, and I really enjoyed the campus. I like the atmosphere in D.C., and it felt like a good fit. It really met all my criteria. It’s a great academic school, and that was one of my family’s goals – to get into the best academic school possible.
“Once I committed I started looking at some of the other schools in the Big East and seeing where I would be traveling. Playing at home is great, but traveling all over the country is going to be fun as well.”
What was the progression that led you to your scholarship at Georgetown? “My parents have really been key in this decision. My dad especially started looking into how the recruiting process worked – that started after my sophomore year after the Carpenter Cup when I started getting some attention.
“That summer I went down to the Headfirst Showcase in Virginia, and that’s when things really started to heat up. A bunch of schools were there, and what was nice about it – they could work with you because it wasn’t technically a showcase. You could talk to them and ask them questions. That event really sparked some interest, and I made a couple of (college) visits when I went down there.
“Throughout the winter and into spring and then playing with the Philadelphia Bandits – which is a showcase team, it came down to the final list, and I made my decision.”
Coach Pete Moore says: “He’s a special kid. Mat is a well-rounded student-athlete and does it in the classroom and on the field as well. He’s an extremely hard worker, and he leads by example. He’s just a good person as well as a very good athlete.
“This is great for our program. Georgetown is in the Big East, and the Big East has very good baseball. We have been fortunate to have a number of our kids go on to play college baseball. What you want to do is put yourself in a position so you’re going to be able to go somewhere and contribute to the program. That’s what Matt has done. There were a lot of schools that were interested, and he found a school that was right for him.”
