Tyler Coleman – West Chester University (Baseball)
Major: Secondary Education
Final list of colleges: West Chester, Lafayette, Elizabethtown, Moravian
Reasons for choosing West Chester: “I really like coach Jackson – he has the same kind of philosophy of working hard, and if you work hard, you can win.”
When did the idea of playing at the collegiate level become a reality? “In 10th grade, I moved to an AAU team in Warminster, and my AAU coach told me I had enough talent to play at the next level. I decided it would be a good idea.
“West Chester contacted me in early August. I went to a showcase and went 3-for-3 with a home run and two singles, and I started making contact with coach Jackson.”
What are your goals for your final high school season? “I want to improve myself. Our team finished 7-8 last year, and I’m hoping we can make the playoffs this year. We’ll work hard and see what happens.”
Coach Steve Cherrybon says: “He’s one of the hardest workers we ever had here. His commitment and his love of the sport are obvious. You take his commitment plus his ability, and he can play at the next level.
“We moved him up to the varsity team as a 10th grader, and he hit a home run in one of the early games and just played like a veteran on the field and played with poise as a 10th grader on a very good team. He fit right in.
“He pitches and can play any infield position. Last year he hit second and fifth, and by the end of the year, he was hitting out of the three or four spot because he was our most consistent hitter throughout the season. He’s going to get a chance to show what he can do at West Chester, and his ability on the field will speak for itself.”
