On Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2010, Central Bucks East senior Weston French was recognized for signing a letter of intent to accept a lacrosse scholarship to Siena College.
Weston French – Siena College (Lacrosse)
Major: Business
Final list of colleges: Siena, Bryant, Sacred Heart, Villanova
Reasons for choosing Siena: “I really liked the coaches – the two assistant coaches are really young guys, and the head coach was a really nice guy. I really liked the campus. It’s a small campus in a college town, which is what I was looking for. I liked everything about it. They have a good business school, and I was really excited about that too.”
When did Siena enter the picture? “Actually, Siena started later than most of the other schools. They were one of the last ones to contact me because they saw me at a recruiting tournament in Maryland in late July, and they said they followed me around the whole week at the week-long tournament. After that, they sent me a letter asking me to come up for a visit. I went up and loved it and committed soon after that.”
Coach Bruce Garcia says: “He embodies a student-athlete – he gets good grades, he’s a good kid and he’s a very good athlete. He was 2010 First Team All-SOL. Weston not only naturally is an athlete, but he improved every year, and I don’t expect this year to be any different, and that’s probably the biggest thing about Weston – he listens, he improves, and he gets better.
“He’s a defenseman, and he’s a very unselfish player. Our best athletes are defensemen – our best stick skills are attack, but our best athletes are, without a doubt, defensemen. One thing about defense – it certainly doesn’t sell any tickets, but it wins games. You have a strong defense and a good goalie - that allows the offensive midfield and offensive attackmen to take their time, take shots and take risks. I think Weston is well-placed at Siena.”
