On Monday, Nov. 22, 2010, Pennsbury senior Whitney Gould was recognized for signing a letter of intent to swim for St. Louis University.

Reasons for choosing St. Louis: “The team was so friendly, they were so accepting of new people, and they really wanted me. I can’t wait to be a part of it next year.
“It hasn’t really sunk in how far it is, but I’m excited for it. It will be so different, and it will be a good experience. Now that I know where I’m going to college, I can enjoy the rest of my senior year instead of stressing about college.”
What was the progression that led you to this point? “This is my 10th year swimming, so it’s hard to imagine my life without it. I think I always knew I wanted to swim when I went to college.
“The recruiting process was pretty smooth. I would talk to the coaches, and they would let me know if they were interested. I had a chance to visit a few schools.
“My club coach works with college admissions, and at the end of last year, he asked us what we were looking for in a college, and he sent us a list of schools he recommended. St. Louis was on my list. Because it was so far, I was a little worried about looking there, but the campus is so beautiful. I really liked it a lot.”
Pennsbury coach John Wilson says: “Whitney can pretty much swim anything. She swam the 500 freestyle last year, and we’ve let her go back to the 200 freestyle this year. She’s one of our captains, and she’s a really, really nice person. She’s very soft-spoken, but yet as a swimmer she’s tenacious.
“We’re hoping this year she breaks out. She has been a really good dual meet swimmer for us, and she swims for club and has had great success there. My hope is that she will get to states this year. I really feel she’s deserving of it just because of the type of person she is and the commitment to the sport that she’s made and the commitment to the team that she’s made.
“She will swim anything you ask her to swim. She has a real nice butterfly, but typically, we use her for freestyle.”
